This CD contains demos of songs from Joanie's Phone, a musical originally written for a kid's performing arts school. Book, music, and lyrics are by Michael Cohen. Vocalists on this recording are Liz Sumner, Cindy Choate, and Mary Armstrong.

 

The plot of Joanie's Phone involves a socially awkward modern-day thirteen year-old girl who mistakenly gets sent to a Victorian fairy world in order to instruct the children of that realm. She has with her an I-Phonelike computer, which comes to be considered a powerful magic item. Her hopes of trading it for a return home are dashed when the phone is stolen.

 

While the premise of the story touches on the absurd, the musical takes on some more serious topics such as sibling rivalry, shunning, and conformity.
