23 perles... free ! les fans de FBS sont servis... Tous les styles FBS sont présents sur ce recueil de titres initialement mis de côtés (j'aimerais avoir des fonds de dossiers aussi fournis que les tiens !) Pour les aficionados des 2 albums plugués du combo (tasteless et make this end), le style habituel est là, gros et impactant. ("Hell's Within Me" "Some Kind Of Hell"...) et pour ceux qui préfèrent l'ambiance Orgamilk, les univers plus soft, les jolies mélodies et le chant touchant de pedro, ils seront également satisfaits ("This Taste" "Holy Bile"). Au delà de ces aspects qu'on va qualifier de classiques et réjouissants, de bien belles surprises : des ballades au piano ("Am I Here" "Be My Twin" "), une superbe pièce aux sonorités orientales ("aeromind"), puis un truc fou tout droit sorti de l'asile ("Psychiatric"). Et LA grosse surprise : des morceaux que j'ai entendu à l'occasion des lives de FBS qui ne sont que pures énergies, avec grosse pêche en prime ("Bad Fluid", "If I Could", "The Cost Of A Dream", "Never Enough", "Alone With Myself", "Scarify") et qui rappele les 3 compères inspirés sur scène : jenphy le batteur qui tape fort et juste, oli le bassiste nonchalant, et pedro qui gratte et chante énergiquement. Je regrette juste que le live est nettement plus énergique et impressionant que les chansons de l'album même si cette sortie laisse entrevoir la puissance du groupe sur scène. Au final tous les amateurs de rock bien sentis seront servis et les fans ravis par un superbe cadeau et une invitation tonitruante à voir FBS live.

I'll start the review by saying that I think fresh body shop has an inspiring musical talent and finding he'd released another album was music to my ears. So, does this album feel like his previous offerings that so many of us are fond of? Within seconds of hitting play I found the answer to be yes as I was struck by a fresh sounding song which left me in awe. Though the whole album could be lumped under 'alternative', there are more rock-y moments, more punk-y moments, more heavy moments and alternatively many breath-taking intimate moments, such that this album is more diverse in style than his last three combined. This isn't only the best 'demo' ever compiled, infact it's one of the best albums I've ever heard.

Très bon album de pop rock française mélodique, renvoyant à Jeff Beck et autres artistes similaires. Le travail sur les arrangements et la mélodie est recherché et surtout... trouvé. Une voix haut-perché, émotionnelle. Un bon son. Seul petit hic: l'accent anglais n'est pas tout à fait au point, ce qui lui donne le défaut de ces français chantant en anglais avec un une pointe de consonnance bien frenchy, parfois dérangeante. Mais bon, ce n'est qu'un détail. Bonne suite !

Two months ago or so, the alternative band Gorillaz released their "D-Sides" album, a compilation of B-sides and leftovers from the recording sessions of their second studio album. The thing is, these B-sides and leftovers sound just as good as - if not better than - the album itself! The only thing that ruined it was a boring and awful remix CD that came with it. And just like that, this "leftovers compilation" album is packed with plenty of powerful and - mostly - varied songs, from insanely melodic pop songs like "Another Day Without Sun", "Scarify", and "Bad Fluid", to heavy power chord string-snappers such as "If I Could", "Fruit Of A Bad Tree", and "Alone With Myself", to solo piano or guitar performances like "This Taste" and "Am I Here", to the usual fresh body shop 'pop rock with a twist' repertoire like "Not That Good", "Deep In The Abstract", and the fantastic "The Self Hate Song". My most favorite song, "Aeromind", definitely stands out as a dense, airy, possibly Celtic-influenced song, with Pedro singing in an accurate way that I've never heard from him before. A couple of times there's notable background crackle (hence "rusty" demo songs, probably), and most songs suffer from the same bad voice mixing that's heard in "make this end" - maybe all of them do, but it's not notable in the solo piano/guitar songs. The abundance of 'guitar/piano plus the singer' types of songs on the first half of the album begins to irritate alightly, and the guitar rhythm in "This Taste" sounds exactly the same like the one in "Another Day Without Sun" - given that was just five songs ago, it feels really awkward. All of these issues are forgivable, though. Basically, these are demo songs, some obviously recorded before "make this end", and it was even admitted in the description that 'the sound is shitty'. The fact that some songs sound a bit the same can also be understood, and shouldn't be even cared for, since this compilation offers a greater assortment of genre-mashing than the albums. And the bad vocal mixes... they're no more, right? Just listen to "tasteless". This compilation shows some facets of this solo artist/band-type-thing I haven't come to know until now, and it's great. Plus, it's even twice longer than the band's usual albums, and it doesn't come with a crappy remix CD. I hope that some of these will be considered for re-recording (hint: "Aeromind" has some background crackle too) and that other artists will follow suit.

I love the voice, the songtexts and every other kind of this band! but in some ways I think, that some of the songs sounds like the others from other albums, so I give only a 7. But I really love Fresh Body Shop! It is not a bad comment, only a comment to help the artist!

Pour moi FBS est une découverte MySpace, et c'est rare de tomber sur des artistes de ce niveau. Cet album de raretés est un fourre-tout passionant, ca fait un bout de temps que je l'écoute et je continue à découvrir des trucs. Mes chansons préférées changent d'une semaine à l'autre. Merci FBS pour ce beau cadeau, ce serait trop dommage de laisser des chansons comme ca dormir au fond d'un disque dur ! Bon une légère critique je ne suis pas fan des batteries électroniques, mais quel talent de compositeur ! Si c'était un groupe avec les moyens d'aller en studio, le résultat serait énorme !

Fresh Body Shop est devenu un des groupes incontournables de Jamendo. Depuis sa sortie, j'ai écouté cet album en boucle et en reboucle. Et c'est toujours avec le même plaisir que je savoure ces délicieuses musiques pop-rock. Encore un excellent album !
