The initial goal of Fountains was to play a little with controlling noise that had its own motion, like directing a stream of water, and this is probably best expressed through Estelle and Paulina, which was the first song written on the album. Later tracks scaled back a little on this, but opted to explore the idea of a slightly less tight, slightly more organic feeling sound in different ways. Between Fountains and its sister EP, Orchard Days, a bridge is being formed between the last album and the next. I'm not yet completely sure where the other edge of that bridge leads, but I feel tha these are transitional EPs that are moving me away from where I was on the full-length Peristalsis, and into some new place.
