Constant Change had been designed to be something like a concept album, a look back on DrNI's impressions about live in the few past years before. He even wrote a little story for each and every track in his blog. The entire thing is also available for free download on the artist's web page.

From the music perspective, Constant Change combines composed basic structures with improvised melody lines. Synthesizers were played all by DrNI except for the track Das Meer v.2  (The Sea) featuring Benjamin Strohmaier on Vocals and keyboard. Bass lines usually are e-bass lines. In Computational Linguistics, vocals and the lead melody were left over to computers, the latter being converted from linguistic data of the field of syntax. Various samples released under CC licences were used on the entire album.

The outcome of the design goals turned out to be on a curve from a rather lively opening over some heavily disturbing intermezzo in between, eventually stabilizing in a more dreamy, trance-alike situation.

This is quite a mixture of 'stuff'. At first it seems to be a reasonable, fairly light array of electronic tracks. Das Meer has a strange quality beginning with sewerage and ending with what sounds like a Geiger counter. Quite amusingly done, for such a serious subject (if it is even that). Wahnsinn presents us with a darker aspect of electronical manipulation, nicely done I will say. One Step Forward 2 a nice, melodic interlude and we are back with the positivity that seemed apparent at first. Computational Linguistics reminds me of my PhD thesis involving computational semiotics. The mathematics involved infinity, so I was basically re-inventing the Turing Machine. Oh well! When it settles down, amid the clatter of keyboard, it is quite a peaceful piece of music. I Dream Of You just blends in beautifully and continues it's merry way along, with a nice lilt and melodiousness. Nice ambient piece of work and a thoroughly cool track. Abstract Factory like a mellow industrialism, works very well and has quite an open feel to it. Wholesome production. Overall, a really fine and mostly positive, electronic array in this particular album format, complete with it's own review!-)
