Melodic, jazzy, and original:  my first Jamendo album, evolution.

I don't know what to call my music; it is somewhere between jazz fusion, progressive rock, and The Twilight Zone.

I do, however, know what to call myself. I have deliberately released this music under my own name—and not some fictional band name—because it is me.

The Album Cover

The photo is of the interior of the St. Augustine Lighthouse.

I chose the name evolution for this album because my musical career has been just that—and this is the point in time where I test my new legs out on the burgeoning continent of the Internet. This is the cycle of life—spiraling ever upward.

The Songs

From November 27 to December 15, 2006, I wrote detailed “liner notes” for each of the songs on my first Jamendo album, evolution. These were posted to my Wordpress blog; here they are, indexed according to track number:

  1. Tattered and Torn.
  2. Jennie Haniver: part 1, part 2.
  3. All I’ll Ever Be.
  4. Desolation Angels.
  5. Lucky Cat.
  6. Magic.
  7. Missing You (Song for Hannah): part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5.
  8. Round Trip Ticket.
  9. Kelly’s Theme: part 1, part 2.
  10. Desert and Dream.
  11. The Burning.
  12. Sally Regrets

About Me

If you've listened to my music, you know me. Here's the rest.

I'm a public school teacher (middle school science), a husband, and an American Indian.  As I mentioned in “All I'll Ever Be,” I switched careers midlife. Before teaching, I was a pharmaceutical research chemist.  In addition to music, I enjoy mathematics, physics, and the board game Go.

"Lucky Cat", "All I'll ever be" & "Tattered and torn" sont très bons aussi. Bravo pour ton album de soft jazz qui s'écoute avec plaisir. Vivement le prochain ! et ne changes pas de style !

Good play, lame mix

You definitely play very well all the instruments, especialy guitar, but the mixdown is not properly orchestrated, too dense. Some professional assistance with arrangement and soundwork and it'll be a great album. I'd also replace that synthesizer's drumkit with something else.

It's 2am, the lights are low and I'm sipping some Old No.7. I can't think of anything better to relax to at the moment. The warm bass rhythms are nicely accentuated by the percussion. Behind this the ambiance is enhanced with moody Hammond chords. The total effect is one of haunting sadness and yearning without being depressive. Some really nice laid back grooves. Well done!

Fresh and accessible

When I saw the tag saying "jazz" I must admit I was a bit afraid to have to hear some modern noisy and complex music made for experts ears only ! Fortunately it's nothing like that. It's accessible and interesting. I always loved Hammond organ. Here I also enjoy this guitar, and the bass. I wish you continue this way : replacing aspirin by more music. You make the world better, and don't know about your headaches. I'll take time to listen to your other works. Thank you for your music.

Magique Maestro!
