Calm Waters is just that, softspace has managed to capture a delicate essence of a natural atmosphere very well and knowing that still waters run deep, there is a sense of the profound to be experienced. Very meditative and transcendental, it makes for a beautiful track to start an album with. Darkness still applies because of that very depth of emotion engendered when listening to the track.
Project X presents a more robust constitution and harks more to the darkness implied in the title. Still toying with the space theme it brings to mind government conspiracy stories about alien lifeforms and contact with the LGM. As music, it is almost symphonic in scale and full of lovely progressions and developments in soundscaping. An intriguing sense of the dramatic, gives it a soundtrack atmosphere in places but isn't that what good music is about, transporting us to places in our very souls and minds. As it continues, it lightens and the positivity shines through, even if only a reflection from a moon, reflections, direct or indirect are good things to partake of.
Talking of spaces, here we are with the cosmic lilt again, which softspace does so well and this is no exception and the very epitome of his talent to craft his imagination into a form and transmit those thoughts and images through creativity to the overawed listener. There's magic in them there notes and rhythmic constructions. To say that there is a loss of structure and direction of a track such as this, seems a bit pointless, when the whole point of Cosmic Space surely is about such a situation. Imagine yourself in that vacuum, which way is up or down, what happens to your sense of time, itself a manufactured concept to incorporate entropy into our lives, and make sense of physical growth and decay. However, in space, the rules change. You've got nearly thirteen minutes to get with the programme, it can't be that hard to tune into the idea.
Darkness just keeps popping its head up everywhere I look at the moment and almost every profound conversation involves it as a concept and I know it's being bandied about as the new empirical observation, as if the likes of Paracelsus and others hundreds of years ago weren't intuitively tuning in on the sense of dark matter. I will reiterate and say that it is the spirit that moves through all things to a much higher degree of existence that all the structured matter that surrounds us in everyday of our mysterious lives and states of being and understanding. As a track, I don't find it dark as such, more like it's just acceptable. Let it flow over your convoluted brain and assimilate it, absorb it, soak it up and then you might get the idea that most of what you know is just a small percentage of what is, and will forever remain unknown. That's The Darkness, and it is not necessarily a bad thing, just because it's dark. All that means is that we have a reasonably healthy fear of the unknown. It's the stuff of life that drives you on as an individual and part of a species of advanced animals, with consciousness to confuse the issue. Excellent album, which I think is ultimately a very positive direction in softspace's musical talents. I wondered why you have been so quiet lately. Nice work my friend.
I like some parts of each song, but for me it needs be more variously.
All in all, it´s nice to listen to while relaxing, keep on doin´
I really liked this perfect album. Thank you for thinking and working!
How lovely, a backdrop soundtrack with space to think. I must try your other albums for my mp3 player while I'm reflecting on the tube!
