I heard some of Mary's things on Myspace and said Wow! Mary's treatment of voice is awesome. It's shamanic, paganic in the same time treated as instrument , very complex, very beautiful instrument from Alignment to the end but especially in Moonstone. But don't forget to listen "music" which follows voice in Moonstone. It's dance. It's sound of dance. Almost without instruments. Uber cool. Saltskin continues in same magic ambient where every component perfectly fits in sound so big that reminds me to my first encounter with Lourie Anderson's "Big Science" album. There is not much similarities between the two except that Mary Cross definitely has ZING. Very artistic feeling for things and originality. And no I am not overreacting. Paper Crane is thing I remember from Myspace or it's very similar to it. I am sucker for feelings in ambient and this one is very looaded with it - again through game of voice and minimal instrumentation which follows it. Big bow on this mademme

Avant de lire la critique de Cvijaxo, j'ai pensé à Laurie Anderson (Big Science). Même s'il est justifié de noter toutes absences de similitudes concrètes, la parenté inexplicable (davantage de l'ordre du ressenti) entre les deux est pourtant incontournable. Il y a bien cette sensation identique de travail distancié sur la matière sonore, réassemblage géométrisé à la manière d'un origami (evoqué dans 'Paper Crane') ou épure sensorielle, le résultat fascine. Les ambiances incite à une introversion aride au sein de laquelle la voix, crayeuse et éphémère, dessine des paraboles complexes.

Well, what can I say? Alignment. I studied astrology, back in my teenage years, for a diploma. One of the best reference books was Planets in Aspect. It was a great help in deciphering charts for people. Here, I feel celestial bodies in conjunction. Gives the aspect more power. Great realism. Moonstone (another good book, though from my childhood), gently lures you into a beautiful sense of seeing inside the mind of the vocalist. Like you are becoming party to a wonderful secret piece of knowledge. Time to let it out and blossom. Saltskin, I think, is a fantastic configuration of creativity. A brilliantly unique stretch of possibilities. I could listen to a lot more of this. Very interesting construction of sound and rhythm, with a finely honed sense of balance. Finally, Paper Crane. Have you ever tried origami? There's an art to it. And, similarly, there is a very particular art to this set of demo tracks. I'm caught up into this, hook, line and sinker. Would definitely care to hear further works evolving from this musical spawning. This last track, is an adventure in itself. Magnificently different in formation and delivery. Excellent work.

Ce travail sur la matière sonore et la voix merveilleuse de Mary sont à découvrir, car c'est un langage musical différent, hors du commun. Battements d'un cœur naissant dans un monde de paradoxes inévitables.Aventure immense dans le couloir des pas perdus, là, juste devant la porte de la folie.Battements d'un cœur expérimenté qui jouis de la vie quelque soit la situation, le degré de conscience. Battements d'un cœur sorti des rangs à la recherche de son propre rythme.Plus qu'étrange, même, peut-être insaisissable. Pourtant une tendresse inconnue voyage, surtout une tendresse attendue voyage.Pourtant ce cœur reste en plainte et mourra dans la douleur, je pense.

to this divine lady, with a beautiful voice who knows how to play with sounds to create melodies and an atmopshere of her own so beautiful, peaceful, strongly secured to earth, though it lifts you above reality, though it excavates your deeper feelings that makes you even more real.
