Étonnant !... Cet album est une pure expérience, créer pratiquement en live, ou en tout cas dans l'esprit de la musique intuitive et sans contrôle ou partition de base. Mais l'expérience n'en ait que plus fascinante ! Dans"Interference", les guitares ressemblent à des sons venant d'une autre dimension, voire à une voix du lointain, le tout dans un bruit de fond dont on se demande parfois si ce n'est pas simplement les turbulences d'une tempête. Étonnant je vous dit ;) "The World Explose..." donne effectivement la sensation d'un monde apocalyptique, tout en paradoxe, un peu à la manière d'un fallout (scène d'intro pour ceux qui connaissent). La balade rock du début s'enfonçant un peu plus à chaque fois dans l'oublie et le bruit... "Prodigal Son" (le fils prodigue) est magnifique, un titre contemplatif et lumineux. On est saisi d'émotion(s)... Avec "Father Along", se dessine une histoire qui se poursuivra durant tout l'album (que je vous laisse découvrir). Néanmoins un brin de lassitude nous envahit aussi (voulu ou pas ?)... "The Ocean"... j'ai l'impression d'être dans l'intro d'un film de David Linch ! Imaginez-vous au bord d'une falaise, l'océan à perte de vue, par une nuit nuageuse de pleine Lune... "Raining in may" un titre tout en douceur, volontairement monotone, essayant de suivre la partition imposée par la pluie. Un véritable exercice de style, une expérience tout à fait dans l'esprit de l'album... "Soul-quarium", ma première impression a été (assez bizarrement, lol) que l'artiste nous remerciait d'être allé aussi loin dans l'écoute de son album, nous encourageant à poursuivre pour le grand final... "Under the Stars" est presque un condensé de tout ce qui vient de précéder. Le titre est empreinte d'une lente mélancolie, et conclu comme il se doit cette expérience unique... Somnium nous a donc livré un ovni musicale, une expérience réalisée à fleur de peau, intense et étonnante. Il serait facile de lui trouver plein de défauts, mais ce serait inutile, car les défauts font parties intégrantes de la démarche, ils en sont aussi le ciment, ce qui rend l'œuvre très humaine finalement. Bref, à écouter au moins une fois... en entier d'un coup, pour être vraiment dans l'ambiance...

Comme si My Bloody Valentine rejouait les morceaux du Saucerful of secrets... planant et noisy. Excellente chronique de ChefGeorges à laquelle j'adhère sans restriction. Et excellent album, rien a ajouter. Sinon, juste un aparté sur la localisation du groupe. San Paolo d'Argon se trouve en Italie, dans la province de Bergame. Il n'y a à priori pas de San Paolo d'Argon au canada ... alors ????

Very curiously arrangements, guitars & bass is really great :) Good mastering, productions & all musical questions. I recomended this album for all fans of dark ambient music. A penetrating vision of interference, beautifully captured and portrayed. The World Explodes In Slow Motion is very deep in the south. Very comfortable sounds here and in Prodigal Son. Somewhat plaintive. Sometimes though I am actually a bit distracted with some of the airwaves. I fully understand their potential fascination, and advocate their exploration. Anyway, the moment of the prodigal return is magically played out, as the track progresses. Farther Along I find a nice tongue-in-cheek integration that works very well. An evangelical nerve net. Frogpond also has a comfortable, southern feel and style. Seemed odd to think of Ry Cooder, as I have not listened to his sounds for ages. Next, The Ocean rolls on in. It has all the right moves and then comes over a bit strange, like it has a bit of a turn. A nicely flowing ambient piece overall, with the occasional hint of an edge. Raining in May got the smell of it. I found this one a bit too home-spun to really appeal. Soul-quarium was distinctly odd, made me think of subliminal personal development tapes. After a good night out, we end up under the stars, in what seems to me a slightly antiquated fashion. For the avant-garde tag I was expecting something distinctive in temporality or neolithic, as far as experimental and noise, abstract; I am eventually disappointed. Ambience full on, if you like the lazy, hazy swamplands. There's a difference between deep and depth. Not really what I was expecting.

Somnium's own notes on this album describe it as "an attempt to use short wave radio interference as a medium for both inspiration and an instrument in production". And the short wave radio is certainly present from the outset, crackling, hissing and distorted in the background. Yet this is an album that seems to take its inspiration equally from the weather and the environment. Hence field recordings are incorporated into the compositions and there is an almost ever present sense of an impending storm. It's almost like listening to someone spinning the car radio dial whilst chasing twisters through the heart of America. In many ways this album reminds me of Hank & Slim's "The World Turned Gingham"; indeed the similarities are uncanny. Whereas Hank & Slim create a dark ambient soundscape using electronics, Somnium opts for guitar. At times you might imagine the latter being played by someone on a porch in the deep South; at other moments it sounds more like a fragment from "Metal Machine Music". But all the while this is an album that seems to possess its own sublime beauty, even in the midst of all the feedback, distortion and interference. Fans of avant garde or experimental music may struggle with the way in which the music has been constructed, particularly Somnium's reliance upon repetitive guitar chords to form the melodic backbone of the majority of tracks. Others may wish for less shortwave radio hiss. But there is no denying that "Interference" creates a highly distinctive soundscape and a musical atmosphere all of its own. Perhaps no track sums up the artist's approach better than "Prodigal Son". However, the title track, with its sonic duel between guitar feedback on the one side and what sounds like a classical Indian instrument on the other is also memorable. There are plenty of great discoveries awaiting the intrepid listener on Jamendo. This is definitely one of them.
