Remainders is a compilation of Caustic Reverie drones and soundscapes from 2009-2010 that weren't released for one reason or another.

The first two pieces are from Helix, a multi-movement generative piece utilizing fmusic, a program by David H. Singer to compose music using fractals and Cellular Automata. Helix was planned to be a companion to Stochastic Resonance, but the project was abandoned in early 2009.

Track 3 came from a sound design session for the group Washed In Blood sometime around May of 2009. I decided to revisit the piece over a year later. There are some binaural panning effects, so I'd recommend listening to this track with a good set of headphones.

Tranquil Reflection was intended to be a collaboration with Seamus Stimpson of Swimmingpool The Band, but it seemed every time I sent him the track, his computer would malfunction. I stopped sending it to him again just in case the track was cursed.

Tracks 5-8 are from a split EP with my noise outfit Shufflebrain. All sounds came from a Korg Kaospad.

Bryn Schurman: Synthesizers, percussion, processing, and production.

It seems like a very long time since I last reviewed a Caustic Reverie release. Seeing Ivan and Mike had already reviewed it was like a another blast from the past, and for me, a reminder of another life I left half a world ago. Bryn's music was a constant companion to me then as I balanced the pros and cons of staying put in Ireland or making the break and forging myself a new life in New Zealand. I have always considered Bryn to be a creator of the highest quality of this style of musical genre. He paints a picture in such a way that allows you the maximum space for your own individual interpretations. Remainders these may be but prove to be real gems in reality. In general, I prefer the pure solo tracks to the collaboration ones but all are very worthy of release. Yes, some are too short to paint anything other than a fleeting glimpse of a faraway scene in your mind however they still are more than able compositions in their own rights. To borrow from others, "a musical treasure trove of a scrapbook". Thanks for the recommendation guys and even more thanks to Bryn for this fine collection.

Somewhat of a swan-song I suspect. The incarnation that is Caustic Reverie appears to have run its course as the final gatherings from the "cutting room floor" are unveiled to the ears of Jamendo. Ivan described it so well as a musical scrapbook. Indeed it is, a collection of pieces that, for one reason or another, never made it to the final release. That does not mean they inferior pieces, far from it in fact. As a set they stand up well and my ears certainly appreciated the variety of musical compositions presented. All the favourites were there, the lost-in-space-and-time sounds, the buried underground ones, the warmth of the rising sun and even "the voice". Old friends all, and all very welcome once again. Short pieces, longer ones and some in between. As expected, I prefer the longer ones as they allow the aural sounds to develop the mind into experiencing the visual interpretations that follow. This audio to visual creation has always been the strength of a CR release. Overall then, a superb selection of extracts from the scrapbook and an aural delight. Many thanks to you once again.

Remarquable !

There are some nice tracks within what is essentially a 'scrapbook' of sorts, a creative clear-out. As a result, there is no umbrella concept to decorate the overall listening experience, which is usually the way with CR's works. Still, nice enough.
