Michael Hoffmann - Nebulous [tonAtom.107]

michael hoffmann does not need to be introduced to the netaudio world. several netlabels have seen him publishing excellent releases in various constellations and styles. this time he presents his experimental side as a solo artist on tonAtom: the acoustic drumkit is the starting point (in terms of both composition and sound) for five aural journeys between live sampling, loop processing and highly sophisticated studio work. he shows us his sounds en detail through the magnifying glass and through the scanning microscope; and lets them vanish into the fogs of the atmospheres he has created. let's accompany michael hoffmann on his journey into the extraordinary sound world he created for us using his drums and his electronics.

a very good work,all in half tints,that keeps a mysterious athmosphere...Time to time,R2D2 passes by on its wheels to give a "halo"... I enjoyed a lot these tracks! Thanks for your music and your rec.

"Nebulous" is an engaging forty-five minute work that places itself at the more avant garde end of the electronic music spectrum. Using layers of sound, Michael Hoffmann creates dark spaces which he populates with loops, samples and live percussion. It is the latter element that really gives the album a distinctive vibe of its own. The whole record has been thoughtfully put together, each track having been carefully curated and constructed. Hoffmann seems to draw much of his inspiration from the environment, hence track titles such as "Frogs in Fog" and "In the Cave". This is music for a murky day in November or perhaps dawn in a dense forest. If you want music that reminds you of pleasant sunny weather you'd be advised to look elsewhere. It is an album that needs to be listened to in its entirety although the closing "Contaminated Flock" probably provides the album's strongest moments. Fans of dark ambient and avant garde electronic music are recommended to give this a go.

Michael Hoffmann crée des ambiances comme personne... on le suit pas à pas dans son univers personnel, minimal et acoustic... c'est toujours un régal ! Nebulous ne fait pas exception à la règle Merci pour l'invitation à écouter cet album :))

Excellent album, au style très personnel, où l'artiste crée des univers et des ambiances sonores toutes particulières, tantôt étranges et mystérieuses mais toujours très fascinantes.
