Liner Notes: Island In The Moonlight (Part 2 of 2)
This album is dedicated to Wolfsong.thePoet (Barbara) who inspired me into making my work better and to Carybe (Carlos) who nagged me into making it better. (Both were successful in their own way.)
So, here we go again with more examples of 'progressive looping' as Carybe has named it.
The first track, on this album, is the complete part one, and the next five are the tracks divided up into chapters. (Thank you, Barbara.)
01 Island In The Moonlight (Full Version Part 2)--as one large track.
02 The Stagger Dance--feeling a bit tipsy (can you hear the 'buzz') from overindulgence on fermented coconut juice from the celebration, he weaves his way to the beach where he's set upon by a pirate crew who've come ashore for drinking water. A good fight ensues but he's finally overcome when an old sack is pulled over his head (you can hear it in the muffled sound of the music at that point.) He's then thumped and he's hauled back to their waiting vessel. Shanghaied!
03 Who Will Mend My Broken Heart--the shanghaied sailor's thoughts turn to his lost love as he toils for hours aboard the pirate ship under watchful eyes. The penalty for trying to escape is death--but they can't stop his mind from escaping.
04 Into The Sea--the former First Mate sees his chance to escape, to make his way aft in the darkness to the stern of the pirate ship and dive into the black sea. He plans to swim through the heaving waves all the way back to the island in the moonlight--or die trying.
(Can you feel the waves? I tried. Also note the 'catch' of the strings--like a cry in the night--I like that 'catch', I actually do that a lot in my music. It gives you a little 'start' of the unexpected--and keeps you awake. ;-)
05 Lament For A Lonely Lady--upon the moonlit shore sits the one who loves him. A night and a day have passed and back into night again--telling her that it's been too long, that he won't be returning.
(NOTE: In the next track I've extended one of my original pieces from months ago that was way too short: Spring In Love--just for Wolfsong.)
06 Lost Love By Moonlight--the other women gather behind her. (After the opening of the piece--the first 2 minutes) Dahna thinks back one last time of the love in his eyes for her, the happiness they shared together for such a short time. Finally, never to feel it again is too great a burden for her heart and she slowly moves into the water.
But suddenly she hears a man's voice, his voice, her beloved's voice, calling her name from the waves...or is it from the bottom of the sea?
Not knowing which, she moves forward into the foaming swells to join him one way or the other...
...they embrace.
And then dance once again upon the ocean in the pale moonlight...
