Album description

Sometimes, the things which we want and we long for seem so close that we just have to reach for them. It's this moment, where all things appear to be possible. However, the very time we put forth our hand, these things are further away than we thought, out of reach from the very beginning, every now and then, they werent even there and we only saw what we wanted to see, and sometimes they even turn around and go. Nevertheless, we do go on, every day, step by step.

All the songs have a history. Some of them are more personal than others. Some are explainable, some are not. Usually, I played these pieces after parties, after some particularly good or bad things happened. Here are some scenes that I like to share with you.

1- Next to you

Even though the title suggests a love song, it is none. Its a longing-song. For something, that is far away. This song is one of the first things I ever recorded. I was 19 that time and I wished I could again think so clearly when I play today. The melodies were so plain in front of me.

2 - Durch die Menge.

I was at a party. It was the certain party where I met this person. I stalked, I surrounded the whole evening and I tried to get in touch, but I was completely ignored, this bastard. :-) Finally, through a common friend, we got i touch. We talked, laughed and decided to meet again in the next days. After coming home, I sat on the piano and played that piece. This piece is what I felt when I first saw him, through the crowd of talking of dancing people, he stood there, 20 meters away, with 2 cocktails in his hands, looking around.....

6 - Because of

I dont know If u know that feeling when all things seem to be clear. Like the moment you look through a prism, watching all the colors, forms and shapes, changing in time. Sometimes, one has these moments by regarding life itself. All things are clear. And everything seems to be ok in this special second. And interestingly, life is neither good or bad in these moments - life is. that is all. Nothing more, nothing less.

7 - Lago di Como

Student trip to italy. One of the best times I ever had in my life. Never ever felt so content. After 45 bottles including singing and playing cards, 4 am in the morning, I wrote this song. Thanks to everybody who was on that trip, that was a great time.

8 - Song for Sarah

No, Sarah is not my Ex-girlfriend. Sarah is the now nearly one year old daughter of my PhD Supervisor and friend, Kees Dullemond. Kees, as young daddies sometimes do, comes to the institute looking like overdriven by a 20-tons truck. Sarah doesnt sleep. On the contrary, she seems to be quite awake, especially at times her parents want to go to bed and 5 am in the morning. Hence, I decided to write her a lullaby. And this came out ......The last song, terminal stop tomorrow, is also a lullaby.

There's a review comparing this artist to Rob Costlow, well, there's nothing in common between Costlow's kitsch and these proficient improvisations. Maybe the romantic feel of the two first tracks resembles a bit Costlow's works, but Brauer has far more sensual touch and evident emotional expression in his music.
I think that more proper comparison would be the solo concerts of Keith Jarrett, and that, in my opinion, is a weakness...
I must say that after listening to that so promissing single - 2AM, I was slightly disilluded by this album... What do we need a second Keith Jarrett for?! The original one still does the job pretty well.
But, Nevertheless, it's a good work that deserves a listen.
