Album description

Comment By Cédric

In the course of the past months, the collective known as Inborn has written, recorded and orchestrated ‘The Headtrance Session’; it has to be mentioned that this record can only be considered as a whole based on an underlying concept.
As far as the music is concerned, it contains a great variety of different musical elements reaching from electronic music to straight-edge hardcore. In fact, the musical concept is based on contrasts creating a very unique landscape; a sense of harmony is achieved by the combination of gloomy atmospheres and dirty Rock’n’Roll.
From the lyrical point of view, this concept album analyses the different aspects of the artist. From the complete destruction of a universe of conformism and psychological struggle to the eons of creation, the artist has to destroy his ancient world to build a new Temple as a renewal of an everlasting creative process.
Finally, the visual dimension completes this experimental work of art. The theme of evolution can be considered as a leitmotif guiding the eye from the metamorphosis of a surrealistic martyr into a symbological Gotama to Da Vinci’s proportions of the human body.

Presentation of ‘The Headtrance Session’

01- Spirals (the architecture of the sky)
The dramatic opener ‘Spirals’ creates atmospheres full of tension and crescendos catching you from the modern adaptation of Carl Orff’s ‘Carmina Burana’ at the very beginning to the final staccato-riffs.

02- Hypoxia
This song is based on a catching hypnotic bass line and follows the opener without any interruption. This gloomy masterpiece switches from weird clean melodies to oppressive distortions. The different instruments are creating an experimental whole unlike anything you may have heard before.

03- Renaissance 17.0
It all starts with a heartbeat… The melancholic chord progressions at the beginning of the song set you in the mood of emotional schizophrenia that is developed in the verse. The chorus with its massive guitars can be associated to the Deftones.
‘Renaissance 17. 0’ represents the most diverse stuff ever created by Inborn.

04- The Desert
The first straight song on the record guides you from ‘temples made of sand’ and ‘the labyrinth of time’ to the ‘inspiration-factory’. It represents a trip through the desert rock landscape of the nineties.

05- a) noid b) when insects cry
This instrumental epic at the centre of the record falls into different sections featuring violins, sitars and piano parts as well as an aborrigenee like trip into a musical jungle.

06- Focused Energy In A Energy
This classic Inborn track is one of the first songs ever written by Inborn introduces the second part of the record, which seems to be rather straight.

07- The Fall of the Temple
This Rock n Roll-oriented aspect is developed in ‘The Fall of the Temple’, the intense groove immediately seduces the listener to dance. The oriental flair of the outro is strongly reminiscent of Led Zeppelin.

08-
This oriental folk song almost sounds like a ballad, a unique sense of harmony is achieved by complementary melodies and the use of bizarre jazz chords.

09- Sakhiayani
The first techno song ever written by Inborn combines very different electronic elements featuring a psychedelic Manzarek-like organ and a funky bass line as well as a penetrating leitmotif.

10- The Cosmic Dance Of Destruction
This epic hardcore track starts with a blistering rhythmic inferno, which is followed by a storm of aggressive guitars and develops into electronic music, groove oriented funk as well as bluesy hardcore voicings. The dramatic chords at the end of the song seem to orchestrate the end of the world.

Furthermore, this song juxtaposes the differents elements of ‘The Headtrance Session’ in order to compress the essence of the collective known as Inborn.

At the beginning i thought it was another muse -like rock band but Inborn is more than that. They do it their own and some of their songs are really interesting but sound production is too bad to really fully appreciate.
With a better voice recording , a better sound , I certainly would have given more than 6..

Allthough I don't particulary like the style of this music, (it's to slow for me), I'm impressed by the quality. These guys know how to play their instruments, write a decent song and get it recorded.

The music reminds me a bit of Tool. It's rock, with some electronic influences.

I have listened to this album a number of times now, and it gets better on each listen. The distortion is powerful and adds to the potpourri of clever sounds this band is very adept at producing. The definition of Art is discovery, these musicians are discoverers, and true artists.

I have come to the conclusion that the distorted voices are a feature and not a flaw. Nothing is clear cut when dealing with the mystical ;-)

There is a basic repetitive metal/hard rock core to this album with variations to make it interesting. I like the blues guitar influences but there is everything from ambient sounds to avant garde twisted strings, crystal clear acoustic to heavily distorted electronica.

With repeated listening this album has grown on me.

This album might be on the light side for metal fans, and on the strange side for hard rock fans. Give it a listen anyway, you might just cross over...
