Album description

These instrumental compositions reflect the feelings and the dreams of the hedonist whom I am. Mainly influenced by my journeys in Asia, notament in India, I try to tell various anecdotes and feelings that I cannot express by the words. Sometimes dark, sometimes brightened up, my music reveals in a way, my philosophic point of view of the life in front of natural elements or not, which surround us. 2 sides by the Yin and by the Yang join to create the harmony.

Outstanding guitar work!

Derek impresiona como un talentoso guitarrista con muy buen gusto. Sus temas en esta grabación son de fácil audición, pero aún así llenas de musicalidad. Con fuertes raíces en el Jazz contemporáneo, explora terreno transitado por músicos como Frank Gambale, Scott Henderson u otros, sin decepcionar al oyente en ningún momento. ESTO NO ES MUZAK!, sino un buen esfuerzo por mantener una visión moderna en el lenguaje d ela guitarra en el Jazz, con sabor eléctrico. Sería muy interesante tener más material de Derek pronto (especialmente un set en directo!).

Derek impresses as a very well-tasted guitar player, along with easy to listen, but still full of musicality tunes on this CD. With heavy roots on contemporary Jazz, he explores terrain traveled by the likes of Frank Gambale, Scott Henderson and some others, without letting the listener down at any moment. THIS IS NOT MUZAK!, but a nice effort to keep a modern eye on guitar jazz language, with an electric taste. Would be very interesting to have more from Derek soon (Specially a live set!).

I don't really care much for tags and although I understand their purpose what really matters is what the music makes me feel. Derek´s music makes me feel a lot of good different things. It's intense, melodic, unpredictable but consistent shows a lot of influences but still very original.

Simple, but not bad.

Although I may be no music expert, I've listened to a lot of it. And if nothing else, I know what I like.

Many people would bemoan this music, no doubt, as being too predictable, too boring, too simple. But that's precisely why I like it. Almost all music has its place. On The Beach, simple and predictable as it is, has its own place.

Although the music is of simple construction, it isn't bad. The very thing that makes this such an enjoyable album is that each song allows the listener to make a mental connection to some thought, fantasy, or dream. So often, musicians don't bother to write music that does this, but all of this "silly, simple music" does it. In fact, it does it quite well.

I don't doubt that this would not be very interesting live. But that's not its place. It belongs in CDs and recordings, not concerts.

Even in spite of this, the simple compositions in this album are a joy to listen to. Worthy of a listen.

Absolutely amazing instrumental guitar album. Unique and awsome sound - mixing rock, jazz, and everything else into his guitar melodies. Listen to it!! You will surely like it!

....I never did LSD before...but i think the effect of his guitar is somehow similar

You immediatly can tell that his work is a story of how he felt from the hard drums on one side and the electricity of the guitar coursing through your body taking your mind & soul on a roller-coaster ride

He makes me feel that he's a result of a mating between a zen master & punk rocker...about to be the best rock my ears ever heard !

The more I listened the more amazed I became, I now like every track. This artist is very talented. There is great variety on the album. Derek is not locked into one mode of playing as is the case for some musicians. An exceptional Jamendo artist.

This is my first rating on Jamendo, but I hope that doesn't disuade anyone from taking me seriously. First of all "THANKS,DEREK!" for putting this album on jamendo. Fantastic job. Overall, it reminds me a little of Joe Satriani. (You should take that as a compliment-he's one of my favourite guitarists.) My two favourite songs on the album are "On the Beach" & "Anjuna Market". I like the tempo of them. Very professional. Good mix of songs. Keep up the excellent work! I hope I can find more of your albums on jamendo,soon.

Il n'y a pas à dire, je m'incline, DEREK est un superf guitariste talentueux ! Je ne suis pas asseze pro en guitare pour essayer d'allonger ma critique guitariste mais je peux déjà dire que de cet album ressort une atmosphère très positive, très agréable ! Un gros talent ! Reste plus qu'à confirmer !!!
