Dark, moody intro, very industrial. Then I begin to become Elevated... nice, long, detailed build up with some wonderful sounds going down. Very atmospheric and shadowed with the odd noise that pops up. The mood drops a few octaves and the ambience is enhanced with minimal musicality. Slowly a beat begins to fade and grow, ebb and flow, like a sea of industrial waste. Then it's the track, what it was all about, movement from one phase to another, done with skill. The voice overs add to the drama of the piece which seems to climax around 6 to 7 minutes in. It's a track that keeps your interest up all the way through, with various elements, overwhelming and receding. Top track, well done. The only escape from a dying world is elevation.
Surface Investigation begins with a single bass note, but is soon joined by a flourish and crackling rhythm, or is it a Geiger counter? Strong, slow, sure beat and the tracks off. Additional synthetic noises enhancing a sound foundation. Then we are left with the crackle which seems to be developing, in an echoing structure of melody. Slowly the drumbeat begins to return. A slightly different perspective on things, which is how we adapt to changes in our situation. Which is were this track and the first one succeed, despite their length, in their ability to transform in a logical, reasonable, skilled manner. The results of the surface investigation actually, by comparison, sound a little hopeful even. Clever stuff!-)
Meltal is necessarily very metallic to start, with a swift melody and fairly swift beat. It's a good tune on top of what is almost a teetering rhythm, it works really well together. Again, a nice change over about half way in, a breather almost before it re-asserts its musical presence. Followed by Raiana. Instantly I feel like I'm on an older, more desolate place that was once called Earth. Melody, deep and moody along with its obvious beat take over the sounds that began it. Synths begin swirling around to build on the rock underneath, and weave a chorus to match the percussion when it steps up. Raiana seems to be firing on all cylinders by now, but just as you think you've worked it all out, there's another of those breathtaking pauses which enables a change in tone and atmosphere. Always phoenix-like in progessiveness?
A set of lovely tracks, nice work.
