I was hoping to listen to a folk album, and instead got post-modern pop. So, the low rating I give it comes from my expectations, and not necessarily from your expectations or preferences.
I thought it was applesauce -- all mixed together, with nothing dramatic, like DeBussy with an acoustic guitar. His voice needs some work as he only seemed to use a high falsetto, and a low, slow talking voice. I prefer more dynamism in the vocal delivery.
I really liked how he posted his lyrics. Some of them were very clever, but on the whole I just didn't connect to them. They seemed to be extremely introverted, and don't reach out like good folk music should.
I did like how he put out a significant number of songs, and they were of significant length. It was clear he put effort into this. I like his production work when he double-tracked his voice, and some of the other effects. It was clear this was no halfhearted project.
Best wishes to Johannes, but his music is simply not for me.
