The album art for Fugue State consists of photographs taken in Pripyat, Ukraine in August 2007. Pripyat is an abandoned modern city inside of the Exclusion Zone, approximately 2km from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster site.

Can we change things? Can people change? Are they really that willing to bend, to break, for the cause, or perhaps, for nothing at all?

As we drift in the stream of our society, carried by the current, with but a few voices crying out for new direction while the resigned majority murmurs, I wonder: Can we change things? We wait for fate, but do nothing to make our own.

In a few months, will the walls come down, will the world outside come flooding in, and if they do, what lies in wait for us? A brighter future? Unlimited horizons? Or is it something more dark, more sinister, something deadly that we cannot fathom?

As the great divide between what is Now and what is To Be remains, unyielding, we wait. If nothing happens, should we remain, drifting, for another decade? Another century? Should we wait forever? Or will we take the reigns of our collective destiny in hand, defiant to the stream, rise up, and chart new territories?

The time is at hand.

The time is now, the word is love...

The Prelude was lovely, the style and sense of drama were well-balanced. Resonator does just that in a light way, with sprinkles of seriousness. Jotun darkens the atmosphere somewhat, though in an almost gentle manner. Some lovely reverberation in Epiphora, that touches profoundly and some nice diversities too.

The Hyperstructure carries on through, building itself up. Structure is key to what we do, so this implies something larger than an individual. Is that individual part of that structure or simply within it. Is the structure a nation-state, you know the organisation that vetoes what is beneficial to us. Why are we dependent upon people who care more for their own well-being. The panacea, bolstered by government money, is westernised representative democratic socio-economics. The truth, it doesn't work without a patch up now and then. Capitalism is a stage for only a few 'significant' actors...

Telomeres is the chill out that I need after that rant!) Bit of a classical swoop in there, the winds of change maybe... Arc's Angel is exquisitely ambient, with a flutter of percussion and rhythm, nicely balanced as usual. The next track was time well spent and infinitesimally small compared to that which we, as a race, have lost. The next track is a Touch indeed, partially sinister and naive at the same time. A sense of loss and memory.

Islands is a deep, slightly chilly ambience, with those lovely flutters of percussion again, which help it feel a bit more positive, directed. First Stage Prototype just brings a string of militaristic innuendo with it, including depleted uranium. Escape Velocity is a nicely paced track, how quick will it go versus how quick can you get out. Still In Shock perhaps answers the question, a stronger track.

Mourn No More tinkles into existence, forming a strong rhythm and sound structure within seconds. There comes a time, eventually, but the piano adds to the positive side. It is not a 'light' track, but enlightening all the same. The solemnity carries through to the last track, For Loves You've Lost, and presents a sense of sympathy and empathy. A prayer for the innocent...
