Album description

Tao is The Way, the embodiment of the ebb and flow of yin and yang, of Darkness and Light, the unification of both sides of the coin. In creating this album, I set out to show this harmony, this unification, yet in naming it "A Darker Shade of Tao" I am recognising the fact that we can only ever see one side of the coin, and for me, in this moment of my life, the Dark Side is facing me. The Tao is ineffable, it cannot be spoken about using words or even music. This album is my attempt to show both Evil and Good, Heaven and Hell, Dark and Light, Yang and Yin, whilst keeping a level head about my own mortality and my complete inablity to express that which is unattainable by mortals. The album also explores themes of the dreaming world and alternate worlds; all of which, together with our own world, make up the Tao. I would not be the first person to say that I'm not a good singer, but it was important to me to express the concept of this album in my own voice. I hope you can forgive the roughness of my singing and look beyond it to the message I am trying to get across. Please feel free to download and distribute this album wherever you wish (as long as it's not for profit).

Cool album. Like the contrasts. Love the synth sounds in track two. Third track was very enjoyable. The Longer Way Home seems softer than the others so far, liked the lyrics. The Gloom starts beautifully and doesn't last long enough. I Believe is a nice mix of the two apparent styles, intertwined. I think it works well. Same again, with The Dragon's Scale. The Other Side has made me think a bit about what the artist has said about the concept of the album. If you use the coin analogy, then yeah you can only see one side at a time, but there are always two sides so up the analogy to a 'spinning coin', that way you get a blend, more chance of an equilibrium. Being stuck on either side isn't good, as you can have too much of a good thing as well as the bad. It's about balance, which is exemplified in the yin/yang symbol. It's everlasting equilibrium, however you look at it. Slip Into The Sun, slipped by as I was writing that! The Sun being the original Father of all things that were experienced by primitive man. Viral is plain pessimism, good track, but fairly depressing really. The Wheel Of Time is a very Eastern philosophic outlook. I prefer spirals myself, or gyres. Where each revolution aspires to accumulating wisdom and expansion. That I personally feel the whole human race is on a downward spiral doesn't help me and my own outlook. But hey, we all have good times and bad, artist and listener. Today isn't a good one. Everything seems wrong and seems to be going wrong. Yesterday was good. Tomorrow might be better. Trick is not to get stuck in a rut of negativity. Even if you stick with the wheel, there are wheels within the wheels and if you are edging on the Eastern side of philosopy and theology, we are stuck under an Iron sun for a few hundred thousand years yet before things start getting better, so yeah, we are stuffed like a turkey! Lastly, The Final Hour. All I will finish on is that it's never ending, just we carry on in a different essence of being. So, I will see you again in a million years from now, when we are in the Golden Age!-)

Intrigued by the title, Tao has a dark side?? Lets hear... and finding a great album full of styles, moods, experimentation, introversion, despair, hope. Indeed the voice ain't that smoothly tuned but the personality makes it all turn out well. It's very honest . Falling from one world into another, this album gives the whole kaleidoscope men can have exploring their way and encountering evil , obstruction and glimps of heaven. The mix with serene ballads and harsh noise works well. Associations with swell maps, minutemen, tv personalities and ween come to mind, but this tao is standing out for itself. Great album. to be put on repeat.
