Oh, I just had to comment on this - after all, our own stuff (the Maya Conglomerate/Firebrands and Daggers) is western music, sometimes with Indian influences. While here we have Pang Pung, which is indian music, sometimes with western influences.
"Whazzat? Western influences? Where? Where?" you ask.
Well, I smugly noticed the sitar played by someone who was probably a guitarist before, and I also spotted the overall western structure at times. It's like hearing someone speak your language with a slight accent. Or maybe it's like someone adding ketchup to a biryani. Whatever, it works just fine in practice, and any loudmouthed, self-important, pontificating Indian, like me, who tells you otherwise can safely be ignored.
Seriously though, I didn't smirk at the pieces. They were good listening as far as I was concerned. So, relax, put up your feet, pull out your chillum, light up, loosen up, tune in and let this soothing music wash over you at the end of the day.
