This is a rare second listen to an album and a retake on my original review, which seemed harsh to me. There may have been some heterotopic reasoning behind it and other certain listeners, who take more time to reflect on their listening have inspired me to slow down a bit and make a reassessment. So, here goes...

Relics from the future, makes more sense to me, with some more thought applied and after listening to The Search and finding so much in it, I figured I had missed the point. As a concept it touches on our conception of space and time, and if that is viewed, not in a simple linear fashion but in a striated manner, folding and unfolding upon itself, twisting and turning and giving us glimpses of what is to come as well as reminders of that which has gone on. All this is stored in the collective consciousness and certain souls on this planet, and floating around it in the aether have a finer, more tuned in reflectivity. Originally, I was somewhat isolated in a psychological manner and therefore not in tune, but time has moved on and things have changed, including my perspective.

Originally, I remarked that the music was bland but all such judgements are subjective and prone to a host of affective variables. My comment, as is often the case, reflected an aspect of me. I felt my own future was potentially and inescapably bland. However, like I said, time and space have moved on and around, and I hear with a different, more hopeful attitude towards life, which is necessarily reflected in how I hear and what I write.

What I now hear, is a sense of hope and that the aforementioned relics attest to a future that we may actually survive to experience. Admittedly, I literally view the world from a relatively cosseted area, where no bombs are falling and depleted uranium does not play a part. Nor starvation, though hunger does sometimes happen, without me able to change it. The way round is distraction, even if that is to put the headphones on and drift into the music. That usually ends in sleep, but when I was a child that was such a magical experience, why should I not be able to enjoy it the same way. A change in circumstances makes that obvious in some senses, but it's also about attitude and we are all prone to getting that wrong sometimes.

This second listen opens up new vistas for me and calls a different tune this time round, and I owe the artist due deference in achievement. In those far off days of Tangerine Dream's 'Rubicon' and Jarre's 'Oxygene', I had more dreams and hope for the relics of the future. Over time, those have dissipated somewhat, to a point that was literally unbearable and I struggled to assimilate those feelings. Now though, with a different head on, I hear that magic once more. A sign that I am recovering from that which brought me down hard again. Which I can only hope is a good thing.

It is perfect in the sense of its genres, and I am able to see an essence of transcendence which before I was not capable of rendering unto myself. Now the big guy is speaking to me again, so what I now hear is not blandness but the activity of dark matter. The spaces in between mean more and the tonality reminds me of those dearly held dreams of my childhood. Now I am older, I don't get so much chance to escape the usual dreariness of routine but instead find a way to accept it and smile at the same time, not just physically, but on the inside too. OK, maybe I have talked more about myself than the music, but that's just the magic that I refer to and I didn't pick up on first time around. This time it's different by far and much more amenable to my spirit, which after so many years, is regaining some of its former incandescence. Thanks for sharing that light for the future.
