Album description

Umbriel Rising is proud to present Kaleidoscope Skies EP for free download. It is 18 minutes 51 seconds of a mini symphony dedicated to the sound of vintage analog synths, a continuous flowing piece with 5 movements :

Kaleidoscope Eyes aims to recapture the great synth sounds of pioneer keyboardists such as Rick Wakeman, Keith Emerson, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Jan Hammer, Tony Banks, Rick Wright etc and the sounds that inspired early such groups as Kraftwerk, Visage, Ultravox, Yaz(oo), Depeche Mode, Space (France), Giorgio Moroder, Tears For Fears and The Human League.

The synth sounds are modelled on ALL pre 1982 analog subtractive synths, including Moog Modular, Minimoog, Sequential Circuits Prophet 5, Yamaha CS80, ARP 2600 and perhaps the king of analog poly synths, the Roland Jupiter 8. The sounds were created by Arturia’s range of vintage synth emulation plugins.

The drum machines are also all vintage emulations of the Roland CR78, TR707, 808, 909, Oberheim DMX and Linn RM-1 and RM-2 (aka Linn Drum).

The only other sounds are a couple of spoken word and ambient noise samples.

the taste goes beyond every storyboard and this concept is based on what we dreamed of some time ago

quite long tracks but never boring and to make this happen you must have some kind of intelligence and...as i said above taste!

i would spend hours describing what effectively only listening you can have a better idea

Kaleidoscope Skies EP when seen in the light of intention, does succeed in its aims. It rolls around, back and forth, with that very traditional ambience. This comes from a fan of most of the above, amongst many others and my 'introduction' to electronic music being Tangerine Dream, I also sought solace on many a day with the likes of Wakeman or Jarre perhaps, at a later date in my life. It's not new wave except in a traditional genre kind of way. This is a piece that treads a trusty path into a musical kaleidoscope, held up to the sky, in tribute. Well done!-)
