Description

Equals Conquest: Manifest Destiny

Former bassist/vocalist, Imix Shish, of the Afterglows (former Reading, PA Punk/Hardcore) spins a complete 180 and strips down to his bare soul. What began as rough singer/songwriter ideas was transformed into a new level of sonic soundscapes/ beats/ keys/ awesomeness and textures by collaborating with former bandmate, drummer, and all around ruling guy, Mike Mollura. The duo have created a layered, dense, beautiful ride of gritty sounds and emotions on the bands debut, "Manifest Destiny". The Equals Conquest project grew out of the friendship of Imix and Mike. They had demoed various songs throughout the years, but had only dedicated themselves to the task of recording a full record in early 2005. The duo recorded "Manifest Destiny" exactly like they had always wanted to: on their own terms, on their own time, as equals, and with only themselves to please. After many years of musical collaberation, they knew that they finally had a record they could present to the world. The duo's philosophy has carried over to their live set. Live, Equals Conquest is a living being, capable of taking many shapes. The group, with an album's worth of new, unreleased material, is equipped to play almost any audience. Being multi-instrumentalists has also helped them and they have been able to swtich instruments mid-set if need be. Equals Conquest's style continues to evolve, offering something for everyone with a each tasty piece of rock and roll. Watch for these two as they conquer hearts and minds alike. -drp records

J'ai reçu de la part de l'artiste un message privé sur Jamendo avec un lien vers cet album ?!

Je ne l'ai pas écouté, mais je trouve cela très moyen comme pratique.

I think you have a good concept, but you seem to draw too much from the repetitive nature of pop, rather than it's catchyness. A lot of this reminds me of the Postal Service (starts off promising, then gets a bit boring), especially "I Hate It here".

I think you would do well to try some stripped down accoustic music (no drum machines, no synthesizers, no over-dubbed vocals). It may not be what you want to do, ultimately, but it helps develop song-writing skills.

The biggest issue I have is that none of these songs grab me and make my ears perk up. I don't know all your influences, but you should try listening to some stuff that contrasts your music, like some Violent Femmes, or some old folk, like Ledbelly or Charlie Patton.

"Best. Winter. Ever." has a nice little tune, when the fiddle (at least that's what I think it is) comes in. "30th Street" has an entertaining chorus, but I was, mostly, underwhelmed.

I don't want to seem like some uneducated, idiot critic. My music is lacking in a lot of the areas I just criticized, so feel free to pick my music apart at www.myspace.com/thegrainythroat

Hello, Imix

Listening to your songs, I first felt as if I was seeing you playing in a dirty street under the cold rain, near some people from Piano Magic playing strange songs and an orchestra playing themes from craig armstrong's movie soundtracks. There's some unreal hum in between the melodies and beats.. We're really near a wonderful ambience. But in my opinion, though i like the voice really much, it's still quite common. Of course your music is not only an album but people and you are playing live so you have to be able to play what you wrote. I'm only talking about your produced album here.

I wish you didn't use the same guitar riff many times. I wish you went further. I wish you made a more creative album. This is ok for playing live, but it's quite boring to listen to in a sofa, with warm headphones on my head.

My opinion about "Manifest Destiny" is that i feel it could have been a wonderful album provided you went further in composition and farther from pop rock, but it is still a well-produced album and i believe your live plays can be good, with a lot of energy. So hold on and get on composing and playing!

Please excuse any english mistakes, I don't speak fluently.

Thanks for the add as your friends and thanks for the free listening of your songs, though - this is a lot of work given for free.

Kemiso.
