On this solid follow-up to “Prepare For Glory”, underground hip hop producer Cartel continues the onslaught with “Tha Throwback”. Named “Tha Throwback” because it represents a throwback to when hip hop artists actually cared about lyrical content. It’s comprised of some of the most promising, upcoming MC’s in the game and features improved production from Cartel.

Cartel strikes again ! This album is definately up there with the greatest underground sounds. I ain't gonna detail every track, because everything is top notch, from lyrics (full of tasty references) to fat beats or high quality production. And what's more, it's definately a step up from the already amazing first album.

Cartel is back!

I loved "Prepare for glory", it's one of these hip hop album so rare nowadays. And this new one is (at a first listen) as good as that was!
Keep producing album instead of ringtones, I really like the result!

Per chi non conoscesce Cartel, vi rimando ad un episodio del podcast dove avevo passato un suo pezzo. Si tratta di un artista hip hop, di quelli veri. Vecchia scuola, quando (cito da un testo del suo nuovo album) i neri facevano “album” e non suonerie per i telefonini.

E il suo nuovo album Tha Throwback e` il degno successore del precedente “Prepare for glory” che tanto mi aveva impressionato. In un periodo in cui l’hip hop sembra diventato un esercizio stilistico di copy paste unito allo sfoggio di tanti fondo schiena il piu` possibile svestiti, Cartel e` capace di spingere un album intenso, dalle basi ben pensate e dai testi impegnati. Niente street rap, hip hop melodico che accarezza le orecchie all’ascolto.

Audiobook with some background music

May be they cared enough about the lyrics but this is suposed to be music, not just a rapped poetry audiobook with some boring background rhythms. Track 9, What It Do, is the only one I can recommend to listen, at least once.
