Album description

Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band

Formed from the most talented deadbeats and drifters that could be rounded up, Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band is a group of raucous and rambunctious musicians that will honk, wail, blow, beat, bounce, scream and serenade their way into your hearts. This 11-piece ensemble plays an eclectic repertoire that combines the rich musical history of the circus and the vagabond peoples of Europe with the raw energy of avant-garde jazz and the irreverence and fun of today's Vaudeville for a sound that is somehow familiar yet like no other.

Reviews on Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band at The Nave

I just finished watching King Kong, and was inspired to investigate Vaudeville music, hence my discovery of this band. I can see the boxing ballerinas, the tap dancing brothers, the jugglers and the rich decadence of the Vaudeville scene in my mind as I listen to this evocative music. Brilliant! The live recording of the music only adds to the sense of being there!

This is an awesome discovery - One track in I'm more captivated than by 95% of the music on the web, such a change from IDM and glitch laptop stuff and all of that.
