Album description

A collection of instrumentals, existential musings and apparently platonic love songs.

This is my album. I wish I could say it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it's not. It's just an album that I spent the past half a year working on. I can only hope that you will like it enough to listen to the whole thing at least once. This album has a lot of my perspective on things. A lot of my perspective has changed since I wrote the songs too but I still like the songs.

This album was created using FL Studio 7, Garriton Personal Orchestra, Novation V-Station, Drumwerks Drums, Various Soundfonts a Cort M200 Electric Guitar, a Crate Amp, an Ovation Celebration Acoustic guitar, an old organ from the church, a Mandolin, an egg timer and a lot of various samples from Freesound.org and  ccMixter.org.

Ben Drake is a fiend. The playful but haphazard quality of some of his other albums and his almost reluctant tone in the description made me almost skip this over. And my brief preview of the tracks practically made me snort derisively - "canonical pop". But he suggested listening through the whole album so I popped it into my ipod. And now I've been hooked on the blasted thing ever since.

This album is one of the most exquisitely crafted series of pop tracks that I've come across in years. Very unassuming and sometimes deadpan lyrics which can sometimes catch you unawares. I've had "Sky" stuck on repeat for a while.

When I listen to it I can visualize it playing on soundtracks of movies - perhaps rom-coms or dramas. I'm glad I stumbled on to it while looking for some music to throw on some video footage of San Francisco I had taken while at a conference last year. My wife heard it while I was editing the video and inquired who this was. After listening for a while, she remarked - "He should be on the radio."

Fabulous job and keep up the good work. I'm still listening.

This is a great mix of pop sounds making a nice alternative rock album. The vocals go well with the music and that music is great. It is just enough to keep it from being over the top. Very nicely done.

You said it wasn't the greatest thing since sliced bread but I tried sliced bread and this album. The sliced bread was more nutritious but this album is better because it was far more enjoyable to listen to!

Thanks for sharing!

Very well done! Fresh, accessible, fun. My favourite track was "What Would You Do". The mastering could have been a teeny bit better on some songs, but there aren't really any bad flaws to it, so I'd call it a 9.9 which would round up to a 10, so let's go with that.

Congrats on a very good sound!
