[.. FROST, is slowly covering. Laughing about that "summer". The fall seems to become a myth of another worlds history. Magnetic fields are moving. Seasons are fusioning. We feel that. After "Ceci N'est Pas Beaux Art" (LEGO203; a modern band project) we present you music from a band-player. Michael Hoffmann who usually acts as drummer, "the Metronoman" in several bands and projects. After his last collaboration with Philipp Weigl (Autoplate; APL048)
Michael transports his knowledge and experiences from all his jams and studio works as a drummer and producer into a solo "LP" for the first time. The result is a sound-universe conditioned by the dynamics between icy pads, cryptic vocal and field-recording-fragments on the one hand and jazzy keys, funky pitched synths, strings and guitars floating above complex beat structures on the other.
Enough words ... Tune in if your heart is still beating! ..] LEGOEGO

Michael Hoffmann about FROST: "In 2002 I produced some Loops & Tracks for my band COMFORT ZONE (NuJazz, Electronica). Producing electronic music was a totally new experience for me. I had to get confidend with the different styles of this kind of music. At this time I learned a lot about modern electronic music and its production process. As a drummer
I played already a quantity of different styles over the years, but this was really new ...a great challenge! Later this knowledge flew into the production of my first own album "FROST". This album should not represent a special kind of electronica, but rather only reflects my own visibility manner on Musica Electronica."

Nice nujazz sound in Crazy Monkeys, freely laid back. Magnetosphere creates a different ambience. Well formed and maintained, with just a sprinkling of very loose jazz sounds. The start to Re-motions is ground shaking stuff. Love it. Beautiful atmospherics and sound-scaping but there is confidence enough in the production for me not to be even writing this. La Meteo, again a lovely confident structuring and delivery. Brilliant sound construction. Very professional sounding and with a tasty sense of progression and measure. Artfully done with a fine balance and sense of what's needed in just the right spaces, at the right paces. Pretty stunning percussion.

Iceberg is no exception to the rules already in play. Everything is placed just in the right place at the right time, in just the right measure. As Pan says 'perfect' and it actually is, a sign of a truly accomplished musician who takes his art seriously and doesn't need the likes of me telling him that. However, I will tell the prospective listener that this is well worth listening to, just for the experience. Never mind downloading an album for nothing, get into the sounds and support this magician.

Quiet Now is absolutely fantastic, it needs to be played loud. One of the best interpretations of 'silence' in music, I have ever heard, if not THE best. As an ex-drummer I appreciate how skilful you have to be to play percussion like this and the accompanying sound shaping is totally exquisite. Fine stuff. Ssssh, just listen. Then, we arrive to meet the title track, usually the force majeure, and here it is but is also, curiously, is not. What it does say to me that the whole album has already been that and this is just the last track, to finish a perfect album off perfectly. Wide in structure and spacious enough to pack in a lot more, but again there is just the right amount to make it work fantastically well. A prime mover in musical alchemy. Thanks for sharing the experience.
