OFF is so very ON, it defies description almost. It certainly has that certain something about it. I like to attribute that to attitude and personality, as much as ability as an exemplary and prolific artist. OFF -A-, beautifully structured and with such a wonderfully enigmatic flow, and strength in a self-assured manner. With OFF -1- there still remains that sense of powerfulness, with such a lovely construction. Well grounded with earthy vocals and yet a dreamy guitar background. Velvety underground punk grind. The next track, OFF -B-, has a lovely sense of drama to it, or at least I perceive it so. Whether that was intended or I am embuing it with more spirit, I don't know. Although I know I like it very much. OFF -2- returns with vocalism in good measure and to good effect. This is beginning to feel like two albums intertwining elegantly together so well. Either way, it's pressing all the right buttons for me!-)
Next, OFF -C-, almost explodes synthetically and then settles down into a rhythm like a compressor. Excellent noise control. I will take this brief opportunity to say how much I like the album art, reminds me of The Ruts 7" cover for Babylon's Burning. OFF -3- and we are back to the mildly paced vocal introspection. Love that bassline, nice and bold, with a lovely overall feel to it. Perfect industrialism in the following track, to the point where I fall into a reverie and have to listen to it again! OFF -D-, off the scale, brilliant stuff. OFF -4-, reminds me I need a break soon. Strong tea but first some musical bliss. Finally, the exquisitely poised and presented OFF -E-. I think overall I preferred the letters to the numbers, both though weighing up well against/with each other, depending on how you want to look at it. Although, from whatever perspective a fantastic album release from a master of sound manipulation.
