Leermond - Castanea

featuring Ivan1984 and an Empire State Human Remix

Ausführliche Infos im Blog / more infos in the blog

Castanea - the first Leermond album since a long period of musical abstinence.

Four pieces of electronic music anywhere between cheerfully and melancholic, Schiller and Röyksopp, ambient and dancefloor, avantgarde and pop.

Actually it's an E.P. but it's an important milestone on the way to a whole album in the future. I have much on it to publish these four songs now.

Special feature is the collaboration with Ivan1984 on song Kastanien. The Cover - an unusual interpretation of a cosmic event - along with the title of the album and the song Kastanien it is a puzzle. But what's the relation, the meaning of castanea and the lyrics of the song? Guess!

Kastanien - featuring Ivan1984

"Gebe mich den Träumen und Visionen hin, vergess das graue Leben."

I had the idea for this song when communicating with Ivan1984 via email. He is the good soul of jamendo. I ask him (he is native english) to speak a german sentence "Gebe mich den Träumen und Visionen hin, vergess das graue Leben."  It has excited me to have this accent on the words. Then I have created the song using the original rhythm of Ivans voice. Then I brought him to sing using a vocoder  and created this wonderfull song with brightly melancholic and the clear tendency to earwig.

Zion

This song represents the main idea of Leermond in a special sense. Simple melodies on harmonic pads, diversely arranged, various sounds, giving a good feeling despite the sadness.  The sample of street athmosphere at the beginning takes a special nerve. In the street Zionskirchstraße (Berlin), I experienced so far my most intense experiences as a musician in the 90s.  Zion is also a bridge between then and now.

Wasser

Actually, only a gap filler, but with something special. The song uses a sample of a song of my very first band in 1989 and is thus a reminder of the absolute beginning (we actually had not even instruments).

Melancholic Afro Leermond Remix

with courtesy authorization of Ninthwave Records and LAPTOPROCKERS!

This remix was created in February as a contribution to the remix competition on Laptoprockers Remix Contest: Kraftwerk Meets Human League [ 2009 ] to the song "melancholic afro" of the band "Empire State Human". For this song they has worked togehter with Wolfgang Flür from Kraftwerk. I have taken the original vocal tracks only for this mix (not more). The whole song around it is completely Leermond. It's not the winning remix but it cames into the narrow selection of the jury award of laptoprockers, They mentioned in the laudation: "We came across Leermond's unexpected composition that we somehow couldn't get out of our heads. Psychedelic and middle of the road at the same time." Right.

It's incredible in how many different contexts we meet our friend Ivan these days! I think that Kastanien is most commercially proffessional collab of Ivan I know off. And by this I mean to say only positive things. Leermond found angle to use Ivan's woice which is different of those we had so far. He make it SING which is rare thing with this kind of collabs. And result is awesome, professionally sounding (like rest of ep) song with real melanchonic beuty which rises above machines it's done on. (I can't belive I'm saying this :0.

Zion sounds as more uppbeat continuation it it's open rhytam and airy danceness. It is easier and make our senses chill out before more soothing Wasser - As title says if previous was airy dance this one tries to achieve wattery flow - at least in the beginning. If it's water it's OCEN because it's waide and not shallow. Traces of voices is welcome change in flow.

And at the end Remix make us to rise again. Very profy.

In short this is one hell of electronic music. Executed and crafted perfectly and still sounding fresh and original.

Thanks for this Leermond AND Ivan

Really nice, chilling sounds, and atmosphere, and as far as i can tell, mixed very well.
They remind me a bit of Depeche Mode.

In my opinion, it may be more interesting with some analog instrument, a bit of piano, or electric guitar smoothly in the distance. :) But it is still a 10/10.

For me Kastanien is the track to listen to. Nice synth work and attention to detail. Ivan's vocals are well moulded into the mix and just add to the atmospherics.

There is a good sense of direction here, which I like.
Thanks for the recommendation.

High level composition and production! All 4 songs are good but "Kastanien" is really fantastic! Two thumbs up for you! Thank you!

moon and shadows - very professional electronic soundscapes

(maybe a bit "oldfashioned")

I do genuinely really like the first track, I love the pitch and its construction. That I'm part of it just gives me great honour to be able to be a part of Leermond's wonderful creative processes. And, a good chance to practice my spoken German, which is very English!-) A nicely made track, with a nice progression and meaning! Nice to keep people guessing in my book... Zion presents me with a different set of meanings, partly related to my bloodline, partly related to my own experiences of the 90s, when parties were free still (and sometimes difficult to find, with their secret locations). As far as sadness, I feel a fairly wholesome, beneficial memorability comes into play, for me at least. Still quite a light melancholia and a reasonably adventurous track development. There's heart in it, which is what makes the difference.

Wasser, interesting as a filler. Remember to stop the gaps!-) Again, a song that in its inspiration reminds me of a slightly earlier time and own efforts in a band, playing drums like a demon. We managed a few good gigs, and beat the dead at their own game. Long story... Anyway, nice filler all the same. Which brings me to a interesting combination, being a fan of both Kraftwerk and Human League. Even more curiously, my next book on my reading pile is Wolfgang Flür himself, 'I Was A Robot'. Nice track, which works very well and I am staggered at the way things tie up the loose ends of strings, be they superstrings or not. There may not be a Theory of Everything, but we can still be creative in trying to understand these wonderful coincidences. Excellent album.

A great and interesting, collaboration, between mind and music, here with Leermond and Ivan, on this great first track. I thought it very, atmospheric, intriguing, catchy, ambient, haunting yet a very interesting dance track. Great experimentation on this track as well. Loved it.

Ivan seems to be coming on leaps and bounds with his collaborations with musicians on Jamendo. Just like this collaboration with Leermond here with this great track. Simply loved it. Great job Guys.. And you Ivan, keep collaborating and moving on within yourself more, and building your excellent skills in music further and with the musicians, and them with you, like wise. You give inspiration and talent and most of all another prospective to musical ability and skills, via your super intelligence and way with words and music. This is a compliment believe me. I'am impressed with your talents. More please...

ps Leemer fantastic album in general, wonderful, ambient, moving, beautiful music. To enjoy and travel into whilst you listen and become one with.
