"I think this album is very suggestive, but the tags are definitely wrong, I think it should be tagged as "horror" and "soundtrack". From my point of view, that is what it is: a horror soundtrack. And a very scary and atmospheric one, at that! Don't expect an album in a traditional sense, let yourselves go and create the film images in your head. Once you realize that that peculiar sound is actually the butterfly's wings flapping, you'll be amazed at how effective it is :)
It's an excellent work!"

I think this album is very suggestive, but the tags are definitely wrong, I think it should be tagged as "horror" and "soundtrack".
It's an excellent work!

Your music is trippy. What was your inspiration? I'm going to listen to your album, tonight, before I go to bed.

Yes, definitely a horror show, an eerie start . . . with the flapping of something across the vision of your ears . .. you know something is near . .. as big, engulfing sounds explode through these fluttering creatures . . (Eclosion)

A subterranean sound follows with shots fired across the horizon, an engine is groaning, a battle is in gear . .. the percussion and the strings are deceiving in that they are not presented as melodic beings but part of this horror . . . part of this mechanical devising . . .(Horrhoe)

A darkness descends upon the head of the listeners, and a damp fluttering sound, of a large and nasty beast . . . heavy with suggestion, we hear it creeping up on us. . . flapping and approaching . . . our hairs stand on end. A train, a car flies by disturbing this entity even more . . . oh will the flapping of its wings never stop? Music most gothic and dark maintains the integrity of this beast .. .. suggesting there must be a light for this winged thing to reach for . .(Golden Butterfly)

A deep bass, subtle and muffled . . . droning, muttering, sputtering . . . we are apprehensive as we listen, somewhere a beating, somewhere a heart . .. in a cave so dark and deep, full of dangers and coldness . . . (Frostbitten Heartbeat)

More flutterings, small footsteps cross our perception, screams and groans .. . deep moanings . . A hellishness . . . an abyss, an ever-burning torment. (Wither)
A misbegotten piano. . . a tormented being expresses an anguish . . . softly, perhaps even delicately . . . yet it cries . .. (Fragile)

The depth of sound here was excruciatingly perfect. Each note, instrument, sound, and nuance was carefully and clearly chosen to lead the listener down the path of disturbing darkness and meaning. I found this work to be excellent poetry, dark and meaningful with ambience and delicacy to extract every emotion from the listener. Excellent to listen to as an adventure to the hearing.

How apropos to find this recording today as I drag out my Halloween decorations. You have put me in the perfect mood with your amazing soundtracks. Spooky with a touch of glamour! Amazing work my friend - I have listened to this twice in a row and will definitely pass this along to friends! Kudos for an awesome album!!

Enter into his nightmares, and see, hear, smell, taste and touch, yet you will experience them all for myself.. Wow.. a helter skelter ride into hell and back again.. Kaleidoscopic sound-scape into imaginary, imagination, life, fears, wars, insanity, horror and so much more..go beyond your realms and securities in life and enter into Scabeaters dreams and nightmares mixed to perfection and beyond ....

Mostly when I listen to music, I do so to support or create a certain mood, to steer my (day)dreams into a certain direction. This album is just great at such a job, especially when you're into nightmares.

I was brave (or paralyzed?) enough to bear through the whole album in a single session. ;-) Especially the "Horrhoe", "Frostbitten Heartbeat" and "Wither" tracks gave me the goosebumps. I can't quite put my finger on something specific, but played in the right place this could easily horrify people beyond sanity. Great thanks for "Fragile" being there and being the last track, which helped me find my way into the light back from that pitch black, cold, damp, scary place the previous tracks pulled me into.

Don't get me wrong here -- this is not bad in a musical or technical sense at all -- quite the opposite is the case. It's bad in its very nature in that it induces fear in the boldest of hearts. I can only recommend leaving your eyes open and the lights turned on while listening, I myself will try to avoid ever listening to this again. But I am sure to remember this piece of art as very well done, and of great power.

With a name like Scabeater, you could be tempted to expect Golden Butterfly to be some sort of extreme black metal opus with an ironic title--but, in reality, this is a wonderfully sparse, elegant album of eerie minimalist ambience that is at once melodic and amorphous. Another review stated that Golden Butterfly has a horror-movie soundtrack sort of feel to it, and that is a very accurate description: the music is very evocative of horror soundtracks, but does not need any accompanying visuals (save those conjured up in your own mind) to work. Whether listening intently to the simple but very effective orchestration, or just letting this album play in the background while writing or reading, you'll find your hackles rising and you may look over your shoulder occasionally to see if anyone or anything is there. I highly recommend this album for fans of Nightmare Lodge, Forma Tadre, and John Carpenter.
