jazz hardcore classic lowfi

Album description

Here it is, the split CD- I did the even tracks and a folk rock band called "Sam & Luke" did the odd tracks.  It was packaged in a 7" sleeve.  It didn't look like a CD.  The record stores didn't know what to do with it.  It didn't have a title.  Promoting it was difficult, had to explain, "it's a split CD, a band named "Sam & Luke" did the odd tracks and a guy named "John Holden" (who is me) did the even tracks.  I ended up pretending I did all the tracks because I didn't have the patience to explain it.  As you can see from the above track listing, it's still causing me problems.  I don't know what to do with this thing.

But despite everything, we managed to sell 100 copies for $5 a piece,  had fun doing it, put on a great release party, and broke even.  And I still like the way it flows, with the folk rock giving relief to the spoken word.

The music on my tracks was done by Hans Johnson and was recorded in his parents house in 2004.  He used to back me up at the coffee shops and open mics around the Twin Ports.  Sometimes he played a keyboard and sometimes he wore a bandana and played two toy guitars at the same time.

This is a great harcdore-jazzy low-fi record. Darky and misterious feelings flows all over.
