As an old timer myself, it is very nice to find such a serious intent to rescue that very flavor of an age. I agree with other reviewers that female vocals are definitely great, though opaqued and driven away by that awful sound. I feel there's nothing particularly wrong with the guitar, just would prefer avoiding some repetitive hemiola licks that would be better up to the job on an electric scenario --but that's about personal taste.
Composition skills are very interesting. Please be _less_ polished. Both voice and guitar crave for some more spare room, more development on the freedom side --or maybe somehow I've been led into expecting true Plant & Page revival (which is not to be taken to mean deceit but rather as a thumbs up). Live performance and recording would surely cater for this development. "Blue" is a wonderful song where Inger is pulling out the black, big fat mama from inside but stops just a tiny bit too early --I would love to listen to a new, fearless version of this song.
Seeing the potential of this duet I can only think of this album as a demo because of the terrible sound which I deeply regret. Please PLEASE get produced and rework this album with [a band and] proper sound. Most songs, especially Cool Breeze, would benefit from some ambient sound cleverly being mixed in. Think playing at a campfire.
Sorry if I am being too much of a nitpicker about the very personal matter of style, not trying to be rude. I will follow this band. Thank you!
I somehow agree with both the reviewers (thought I like the guitar work). I'd like to say that your passion compensate those things that were already said need to be fixed.
Plus, from the bottom of my hearth, i truly believe that there is nothing more romantic than Husband and Wife playing together the way you do. Your album should be regarded like an hymn to the marriage! That's it, good woork.
(I wrote a long review and lost it when submitting - here's the shorter version)
You have a nice voice Inger (you are the female, right?) I think it was often spoiled by the echo effect in many of the tracks. The guitar playing did not do justice to your voice.
The tracks had potential, but I was often cringing because of the echo and the brash sound of that guitar. Thomas (I assume you are the player) you need to tighten up your playing, maybe even get a new guitar because I hated the sound of that one in most tracks.
The recording needs to be so much better. Were you in a cave? I think a few of the tracks would have sounded much better with a drum beat personally, but that's me.
In short, it didn't really do it for me, but I would listen to more of your stuff in future.
