Sunset Reposed was recorded and produced in July of 2009, and is the 12th full-length Caustic Reverie release.
There is a nice sense of drama inherent in the beginning of Suspend Stereo, not overwhelming, just pitched right. Therein it slowly builds its atmosphere. I am reminded of early electronic creations of the early seventies, which is fine by me, as they led to many fine moments of escapism. Therein lies its transcendence. Stereo then being relatively new as a listening experience, much was encouraged in terms of the listeners imaginative faculties. Such sounds tend to strike me as being more nihilistic than cavorting with any sense of spiritualism, except in a deeply personal sense, and that's a rare characteristic. Though one often touted as being 'natural', as they sit around the coffee-table. A fine track to start with, setting the pace.
Such testament is captured neatly in Deposes Unrest. Doors of perception, rather than being the foibles of the hysterical neurotic, are profound subconscious steps into realms, for the most part, beyond our human comprehension. An acceptance and assimilation of such a fact is an extremely difficult achievement. Collective consciousness tends to work behind the scenes, as an uncontrolled undercurrent of experience of the universal. Seldom is it purposive and channelled with any sense of thorough proficiency. Here though, I have to concur, is a scantily clad vehicle of noise that at least provides a backdrop of such dreams, if not a key itself.
Having a key is all very well, though in my meagre experience, you have to find the right door. Furthermore, not only that is sufficient, but the ability to experience the truth of what lies beyond. An exploration that has confounded some of the greatest minds over the centuries that such investigation has become exoteric. So, I believe I am considering a very narrow percentile of the population over a grand expanse of time. Some might agree that there was a time when we were closer to the truth than where we are now at. Having layered the magical kernel with barriers of conception and understanding. Wisdom does not necessarily follow on from such knowledge.
Our Pest's Needs, I feel captures the essence of the delusional, Pavlovian response. When the bell rings, most just find themselves a salivating hominid, even less a frightened creature, even more less an intrepid voyager. A track that underlines the potential horror of overstepping boundaries best left alone for the majority. It is too easy to lose track of yourself, when you do not know thyself. Fundamental rules have been created, for good reason, for those endeavouring to take steps into the unknown, further regions of experience, beyond sensations. Nicely worked and manipulated sound, with a deep rhythm of the astral.
Finally, and suitably so, the epic that precedes the end. Sunset Reposed, encapsulates the fading remnants of celestial, life-sustaining light, in our heliocentric egotism. Again, anthropomorphism is a difficult shackle to escape as we dwell in our everyday dungeons. Not one that you can carry with you, such baggage hampers the mode of travel proposed. Such exploration takes time and an extremely well-focused effort at not making an effort, which flitting like an insect in the grand scheme of things, from flower to flower does not empower. I find this track, and as a finale of this whole album, exceptionally moving.
Moving, without moving. The erratic human mind is like a deep pond that has just had a handful of pebbles cast into it. The ripples that count are the ones that cannot be attributed to such invasion of sanctity in sanity. Such profundity is rarely, if ever, part of a persons experiential array, despite a profusion of protestations. A course in life tends to spend most of its time caught in the surface tension, at best accidentally plumbing the depths, until bitten by some silent, unseen monster in the deep shadows therein. These uncharted realms cannot readily be accounted for, though many attest to accessing these esoteric currents. Remember perhaps, that in such domains not even the light, which is held in so much reverence, is not present. Keep that light in the line of sight and beware that step that takes you away from the faltering rays. Keep that key in your pocket, for you may not care to really unlock it.
Wow, this is truly one, absolutely, outstanding, sound scape of musical album. I have heard for awhile, that move me,inside and out, with it's magical, enchanting, beautiful even, ambient, drone, ethereal, minimalism, drone, electronic pitches and sounds, To stimulate my minds eye and touch my heart and soul, and even, let me experience spiritual awareness, as I checked this awesome album out.
