Well, this is actually my first full-length album on Jamendo. It's natural continuation of  "Game of Live"  but this time orienting not only on our lives but on our beliefs and knowledge too. Much of that following loose conceptual line of one serpent  of which we all three wrote our own variants (plus pair of my instrumentals). So this is one more loose conceptual album where you get best expiriance by listening all tracks in sequence. If you burn this on cd leave no pause between tracks.

Giant THANK YOU to Mary Cross and Ivan for enormous generosity with their time and creativity. Without them this album as it is would not be possible.

'Pagans', is a 12 track, Mixed Genre-Spoken(English Language) Word album.

**Note: This Work may be considered as "Spiritual" By Some since may be Inspired by Pre-Christian Faith(Religion(s)) or as New Age by others.

The Compositions in this Album fall generally into Two groups: Spoken Word with Music as Background and Musical using a Mixture of Acoustic( or Acoustic Sounding) Instruments and Synthesizer. Equally, some Tracks are "Experimental" or very Non-Traditional in Melody-Harmony Structure--Track #8. Noah's Raven' and #9. 'In the Cities'.

Track #10. 'Ordinary SNake Instrumental', is a Strongly New Age-Electronica Piece. Chirpy Electro Sounds Blend with Crystalline Synth Strings and Woodwinds to Paint an Light, Airy yet Eerie Soundscape.

Track #11 Rue Mairette', is one of the more Traditionally Structured Works Featuring a Synth Woodwind-Flute Composition Start to Finish.

Track #12. 'Trance Of Life', is "Almost" a Typical Techno Dance Work-Almost....Full of Synth Keyboard and Electro Effects this Piece would be more a Minimal Dance Trax if used as such but is otherwise a Strange( but not unpleasant ) Techno Ambient Work.

Track #1. 'Shine', Features Commentary( as opposed to Poetry) by a Male Narrator set to Synth Strings and Tribal(multiple) Drum Cadences. A Female Voice sings the Word "Shine" in counter point to both the Male and Drums. A Female Voice over occurs in addition to the "Shine Vocalist". In short a surprising complex structure in a fairly brief track.

Track #3. 'Insomniac', is possibly the Most Melodic Piece with its Harp, Metallic Synth String Flute and Synth Melody.

Overall, a Good Work that will be Enjoyed by Some, Incomprehensible to Others and a Taste of Something Completely New to Many.

This album is hard to describe since most of the songs go to different places. Generally used styles range from somewhat elegant symphonic music to industrial to spoken word to ambient... It's a sprawling and lukewarm but conceptually focused package of music, with a lot of quiet (and not so quiet) drama within. I especially like "Serpent - From the Ground" that has a perfect and very unique sound arrangement, like a snapshot of a rainy street and some philosophical pondering on the top.

Some of the album's multitudinous ideas seem questionable. Or that's just my impression anyway. For example, "Insomniac", while a cool soundscape, I feel doesn't lead anywhere. Another example is "Serpent - Ordinary Snake", which starts to sound like desperate second-rate darkwave once the female vocals kick in. I guess it's the melody which bothers me the most in this instance...

Much of the album's concept comes implicit in the form of instrumentals, and even the poems to the main worded songs come from three different writers and thus perspectives, which to me is another intriguing idea. There's a lot of room for interpretation. Overall, it's an interesting album with potential to surprise and evoke thoughts.

It this album doesn't find it's way into the "remembered" musics and literature of the future I'd be very surprised. Sometimes you hit the tuning fork and a whole series of forks with other pitches go off and they are just "there." So it is for the divergent artists, Mary Cross, and Ivan, who are voices, and Cvijaxo, who plays instruments, mostly electronic- the computer, on this album. The separate harmonies are connected, reappraised, re-wrought under the roof of one of Cvijaxo's best and most awesome architectonal pieces to date.

However Cvijaxo edits, he does it brilliantly. His ear is pitch perfect. Composing the music and sounds of the tracks, syncopating, harmonizing, creating clashes, allowing the environment in in its sounds, and the voices, they fly over the music, dive under it, tread, nearly drown, splash, swim beautifully.

As a poet, of course I love the literary element that Ivan brings with the old serpent of yore, loser of innocence, bringer of sensuality and shame, ouroborous of wisdom. And the questions he hurls at the God of Thunder are Kaddish-like, coming from the funerary dirge of humanity caught in an impossible place. To be here without knowing why, or what it means, if anything at all. Though drawing heavily on Garden of Eden myth, one comes away from the literary soundtrack with nothing but existential, postmodern questions. Like any great work of literature, both ancient and modern.

This mythic story, of life, of belief, of our place in this beautiful world, moves outwards from the tracks, even, smooth, spoken but not dramatized, potent with restraint, full of passion beneath the surface. We are not overwhelmed, but drawn in.

Mary's voice is incredible, too. Angelic, yes, but in a strong way, like Joan of Arc, triumphant. A muse. A goddess singing. Feisty, down-to-earth, yet as beautiful as the wind rolling over the hills.

The production values are high. The mesh of music and voice and musical and other sounds a soundscape that works, unfolding with heightened creativity through the tracks. Three artists on tap. And are they magnificent! Wow.

Listen, and listen again. This is soul-shaping music at its best.

This indeed is a brilliant album, agree a lot with ivan and doc concerning such works that go far beyond commercial first-gain views, Starts wonderful with a perfect combination of prose, chant and music, track two is a cinematic masterpiece, with modest means a huge impact is realised. Insomniac gives a desperate feel, wonderfully caught. The idea of a concept-album works wonders here, with every minute a diversification and attention that is highly rewarding. The minimalistic but very melodic approach is great, with natural contributions of all three artists. Ivans's serpent gives a magnificent centerpoint from where the album broadens to artistic and very entertaining highlights in every spectre of the musical richness we can live in nowadays. For a first album this is extremely well done, highly recommendable for free musical spirits, in fact one big advocation for the musicscene that is present nowadays and free available for all who can and want to hear.... Congratulations with this masterpiece. it tranced my life :)

As I put it in a title this is your most mature and complete work. Functions good for concentrated premeditated earphone listening and as muzak for work. Like concept, Mary's and Ivan voices works well together.
Not sure 'bout "a lot of styles". Some listening it works fine and I like differences, sometime I felt like I miss some more consistency.

Like very much Insomniac, Shine and Rue Mariette. You would like rue Garnier more.

Like less fillers. You know them.

This album is quite mystical in atmosphere. It is as if the music is the composer's sermons to us. Different.

... for bringing me in on this project, Cvijaxo. It is artful, mythical, well-written, nicely-produced, and aptly titled. :) Bravo.
