Album description

Live at Wood Hall

is an exciting journey through Allison Crowe's concert repertoire, recorded solo voice and piano - with a simple clarity in the converted chapel of Victoria (B.C.)'s Conservatory of Music.  Alongside more than an album's worth of original songs of love and hope to social and political commentary, Allison covers cherished favourites - including Ani DiFranco ("

Independence Day

"), Counting Crows ("

A Murder of One

"), Tori Amos ("

Playboy Mommy

"), Janis Joplin ("

Me and Bobby McGee

"), and John Lennon ("

Imagine

"). Colours in the artist's musical palette range from roots & blues, through folk, pop/rock, jazz and Broadway. There's even a tradtional Irish aire, "

Believe Me If All (Those Endearing Young Charms)

", sung acapella. Once again, Larry Anschell (Turtle Studios) captures the music on tape and Alix Whitmire designs the beautiful artwork/CD cover. " 'Music, man, that's where it's at'/ it is a religious line/ outside, the chimes rung/ an they/ are still ringin."

This collection, here on Jamendo, contains the original songs of Allison Crowe captured in concert. To hear Allison's live interpretations (cover songs) please visit http://www.allisoncrowe.com/LiveatWoodHall.html

Une voix comme on en entend trop peu sur Jamendo ! Claire et limpide, elle vous fait chavirer. C'est un véritable joyau.
Merci de nous offrir tant de bonheur !

Such an amazing, beautiful, emotional, powerful, moving, touching, instrumental, ambient, piano playing album with the magical vocals of Alison..

Thanks for sharing your gift of magic in your vocals and music..

I like the live setting because the background of the solitary piano really lends to the fire and conviction with which you sing. At times you have a whirlwind sound of fury and frills, always honestly and powerfully sung, and other times a soft angelic voice. The blues and soul touches also add a genuine quality to the voice and songs; and I hate to make comparisons but there are obvious similarities between a host of post 1995 girl and piano acts; You seem to have the sound tableau of Jewel without the pretension, of Sara Mclaughlin without the annoying feeling that you like the sound of your voice too much;

All in all I think you have some great talent, and I will be checking your other offerings out. Don't let the fame and noteriety that you will achieve spoil your songwriting, soul, or lack of pretention.
