Album description

Ancient Species represents a collection of classic tracks specially released for Jamendo.
Shot0p is a very recent collaboration with Dutch singer o0o, who did the singing and the lyrics. You can find him here on Jamendo too! Just click on his icon next to his review :)
mRat is dedicated to my loyal pet Mr Rat, alas died, where a beautiful violinline from Japanese violinplayer Kigas is used.
Egawen part 2 is a thorough treatment of a newagy piece, with voice of surinam singer Bibi. Part 1 you can find on a next release
Criguere part 2 is a treated recording of dozens of crickets who served as food for and were to be eaten by some reptiles in this house. Also here part 1 can be find elsewhere...
Strowl is a  description of a slow walk on a hot day .
Afternoon Gaspuff is the relaxing afterwards with my tired dog in the garden.
Oyeaho is with the singing and guitar-riff of suriname artist Kenny B.

The first track is like a cross between Dead Can Dance and King Crimson, I really like it, works well together. I need simple, repetitive lyrics, it's my only hope but I love the complexities of the music more. This track has a nice flow to it, which I think is the best way I can describe it. That was ShotOp.

mRat starts with rhythmic side-to-side rhythm, then in comes some bass. Suddenly it drops and rises again, interesting sense of movement, almost like a train journey. I love the subtle synthetic solo, then the rhythm takes precendence again, maybe a long train journey, through more tunnels. Almost subterranean in places towards the end. But then it seems we resurface eventually and are back on the track, that disappeared in the black. I have had rat relationships with some of my rodent friends, they are very interesting animals.

Ewagen Part 2 slithers into a vocal soundbyte. The bass rhythm picked up by the synth which then predominates, there's a curious ambience about this track that I can't honestly put my finger on. Something oriental maybe? Everything scatters about half way through and feels lighter, sunnier with the profound depth of a good day at the seaside. Structure was interesting and returns again, almost like a musical palindrome. Some nice touches towards the end. Like an echo of its former self.

Criguere Part 2 is a curious little number, in the background sounds like a busy factory and you are stuck working on a little machine, that appears to start to malfunction. A stilted conversation about midway followed by a resonance I used to dream about repeatedly happens, it's like a flashback. Towards the end I was reminded on Hazel O'Connor's 'Eighth Day' track.

Then, Strowl, dark to start with those lovely squiggles, but something else dominates, like the passing underbelly of some huge, hairy beast. Subtle layers seem to come and go, some not so subtle, quite an ambient piece of work to start. About two minutes in the chanting begins and the invocation of the great old ones begins, I'm getting all Lovecraftian again. The dark woods, the unintelligible voices and darkness thickening all around you. The second half is more active, as the beast invoked rears its hideous features, spouting its soliliquy of revenge on a world that shunned it aeons ago.

Afternoon Gaspuff, starts in space mode and does it perfectly well. A definite sense of otherworldliness about it from the start but it seems to take on a element of everydayness too. The alien wordcrafting and communications are lovely. It's strange how someone just a particular noise can say so much, when a whole song (and I'm talking mainstream) can mean so little. It's a matter of taste, I find this type of ambience, ambitious, progressive and well formed, without relying on traditional structures and melodies. Electronic music has the capability of great diversity within itself as well as in fusion, especially the instrumental kind, it needs to experiment in order to develop creations such as these gems.

Last, but not least, Oyeaho. Starts with a strong pulse of rhythmic synth 'layers'. The voice as background is ideal for me and there is almost a sense of desperation to it. Then more ingredients are added to the mix to casually build up to some crescendo to come, or not as may be. The rhythm is accentuated with drum sounds, an a nice fitting echo effect. Then about half way through there is a ghost rock track in the midst, with some demonic vocalisations. It works really well, almost a track within a track.

Overall, I really liked this one. Chilled but with pools of dark depths here and there. At least that's how it was for me, I look for the music to have the ability to aid my transcendence from reality. This one manages that for me. Nice one KraftiM!-) Thanks.

Can't say that I'm a big fan of this style of music and that's why I won't rate it 'cause I dunno how. Anyway I decided to write this review because of the noticeable progress in the soundwork and the ideas which are undoubtedly more mature comparing to the first album BackVieW. There's certain improvement in the "handling of all those knobs". Pieces like mRat and Criguere part 2 could easily take place in the soundtrack of some David Lynch's flick. They are pretty interesting. The tracks 3 and 7 though sound quite chaotic, I see them as you said yourself - a mistreatment of...
Now about the 1st track Shot0p - where's my dedication ?!!! I see no dedication as promissed :) But this's not the point. It's a good track but according to your own standards isn't it too "simple and rhythmic fixed" for you?

In my other review of Kraftis albums I mentioned that at one point of my life I almost gone crazy listening only his and Noise Sound Nations music. What I didn't mention is that albums I listened were "Ancient Species", "BackView" and "Justase Ep". So when I listened them they were alredy old, classics.

Ancient Species takes special place on my walkman. It is extremely experimental :) ambiental and well krafted bunch of sounds. My absolute favorit is ShotOp which, If you ask me, can be on top of any independent top list. For me it is (distant) reminiscence on time when I gaped in awe listening Talking Heads "Remain in Light" and Robert Fripps "Exposure". It's so powerfull. Really. So Hat down for both Krafti and o0o.

In mRat i don't see rats. but maybe slow motioned squirrel wheel. Transition on melody is very nice touch.

Ewagen like many other Krafti's soundscapes invokes static picture but with intern motions. I experience this like muck rower, direkt material then newest things. Which is NOT bad.

Criguere part 2. Intrigues me every time I listen to it. I always ask my self what is the source of repetitive, rhytmic sound which sounds like train in ultra slow motion. Krafti is master in putting voices in interesting spots or using then in such way that you forget that they are voices.

Strowl is thing you completely miss if you don't listen. Very powerful noise ambient (hmm interesting term).

Aftenoon Gaspuff - Who gives such names to songs? Is more traditional Ambient, kind of Enoish in sound and form but without need for logical - linear developement... Moment which last in eternity until hig note hit you like hammer in the middle of non - moving. Until the end it's not ambient anymore it's noise .)

Oyeaho - Sounds like little noisier continuing on Afternoon but again with twist nad inserted vocals which makes all differance.

In short, only thing I miss is another Shotop style thing somewhere in the structure but even without that it is one fine piece of crasyness :).

Thank You for it Krafti and all collaborators on this classic.

I found this album to be a hypnotic, rippling, kaleidoscope, industrial sounds, dark, nature effects, new age, ambient, movie of life and beyond....told in music.

Very diverse ambient album - professional, creative and entertaining, although not every track is equally interesting.

1 Shot0p
Great hypnotic rhythms, strange hiphop-like vocals - very original and entertaining tune.

2 mRat
Mechanic beats, disturbing noises - I feel like I listened to a heartbeat of a giant robot; a great atmospheric tune. The short distorted violin interludes seem out-of-place, but in fact perfectly fit wicked atmosphere. I couldn't find Mr Rat anywhere, though. ;-)

3 Ewagen part 2
I love the way you play with stereo sound - how the sound migrates between the channels. Very fresh concept and professional execution. The result is great. The distorted keyboard melody played on fast forward is also amusing.

4 Criguere part 2
You have a rat, a dog and some reptiles? Wow. And the song? A miss this time. Nothing is really happening throughout the track - a number of background noises, which seem to be in one song by accident. As a result, the sounds just flow by, not moving a listener in any way. The tune very similar to your earlier works (earlier on Jamendo).

5 Strowl
Mechanical and repetitive, but with a nice atmosphere - I like it.

6 Afternoon Gaspuff
It didn't fit my taste, although it's far better than no. 4. Too static and peaceful for me.

7 Oyeaho
It's great how it starts relatively calm and peaceful and grows louder and more powerful. A mesmerizing tune.

I listen to your works in order in which they are placed on Jamendo and this album is far better than the earlier (I noted that the songs aren't new, though).

The ambiance you created here is gold! The music lifts you up and guides you through the wide spectrum of ambiant sounds and takes you places. I very much like Mr. Rat, it is a nice and gentle 'story'...

You did create a whole new world which at times brought me to one of my favorite games called Metroid Prime...

Unexpecting twist and turns in the subtle ways...you are one hell of a talented guy!!!

Kind regards,

o0o

P.s. Thanks for including me on the album...I am honered!
