The longer you live, the more you can learn. The more you learn, the more you know. The more you know, the less new is out there for you.
Nightwish was there LONG before Evanescence. And the voice is already there...
Of the songs here I like "There's No End" and "Moonlight Brightness". I assume in the latter the piano knowingly imitates a classic piece. The laconic means of expression add to the beauty.
Some other pieces sound like a somewhat unfinished demo to me (e.g. "Touch Me", the guitar even appears to be out of tune a tad).
The voice has all the potential, is very nice and convincing, still there are some places where a few hours more in the studio (or in front of that mike) would have yielded a significantly better result.
Who am I to criticise? No-one, indeed. My number of listens is not even close to that of Magdalen's. Still I believe if she could improve her sound that little bit, she might be found on completely different sites and known to many more people worldwide. Which I wish her from all my heart.
This is kin to Evanescence, but it is smoother and less heavy. This album leans more on piano than on guitar. The track Goodbye really stands out to me. The vocals on this one are near perfect and it flows like water. Great job and I hope to hear more in the future.
But not quite there. The production sounds very thin. I am a bit bothered by the lame drums and the weak guitar. I like the vocals though and my impression is that this could have been really good, but lacks some productionwise. I'm looking forward to the next project though, where i'd like to see som extra effort put in on the guitar and drums. Power it up!
I agree with some of the positive comments about the arrangements, but I think the lyrics need some work as well, and I definitely don't agree with the quality of the mixing/recording. I have the impression everything is set too loud, too much compressor then followed limiters to prevent clipping, and the guitars sound as if they used the line out of the amp to record it, actually horrible, sorry. I'm having the impression the drums even do clip in some songs.
It's a nice voice though, the quiet parts are quite ok, but overall, I can't say it's a good record. I do am curious about how you sound live, probably a hell lot better.
Conclusion: work on lyrics, work on mixing and you'll get a good album.
Although I adore the instrumentals, I feel that they are overpowering your voice. Other than that the sound is absolutely beautiful. I could get lost in these songs in a moment.
Her voice is sweet, beauutiful and very compelling, let alone strong and commands respect as she sings to us the listener, let alone dynamite on this gothic, rock, type of album similar to Evenescence but with more heart and soul, and the music just vibrates and resonates inside your mind and heart. Great tracks that just let your imagination soar and wonderful ballads that are thought provoking and touching.Love the electric guitar riffs and the steady hypnotic sounds of the drums. Heartfelt dream sections on the piano and keyboards are heard and felt also. Great album just to simply sit back and saviour.
I have been a big fan long before she joined jamendo, I'm sure her popularity will soar once the members discover just what a fantastic album is. This is defiantly a must have album in your collection. Keep up the great work Magdalen I await your next release
For some reason this is the kind of music I download the most from Jamendo. With this kind of music, I mean bands like Antarhes, Obsidian Shell, The Way I Am, Dark Hope, Soul In Sadness, ... And I have a new name to add to the list: Magdalen Graal! A great mix between a beautiful voice, a great orchestration and heavy guitars. Count me to your fans!
