Album description

Recorded during their transformation from a studio project with guest musicians into a live band, this EP shows Botany Bay at a definite turning point.

The last Botany Bay release to feature Laura Dietrich on lead vocals adds depth and intenseness not only because of the mounting tensions inside the project but also by opening up Botany Bay's music to new influences and experiences.

The singers on this soundscape just draw you in more and more with the way they sing to us, the listener. Feeling each and every emotion that they are singing about, and the passion and heartfelt sincerity and feelings, of what the song is all about. And the music is appropriate and a perfect atmosphere that just wraps itself around their impeccable vocals. I have just sit and listen and hold onto each and every single word they sing about out.No effort like a great story teller this couple just know distinctively how to tell it..And express it with perfect in their lyrics and how they sing. And the musicians do a brilliant job, with the amazing background music that fits in perfect to their vocals.

It's rare for me to have a playlist on my mp3 player that doesn't have at least one Botany Bay song on it. A wide scope of feel from song to song, all well done, and the lyrics and both vocalists are excellent.

As I listen through this latest album, "Stupid Summer Dreams", I can tell already it will also be a personal favourite. It has a bit more complexity on the layering of the mix than some of their earlier work. But it has that same "this is a classic" feel to it. It's flawless, as usual, and the songs are as accessible as any mainstream song that would hit the top of the charts and hold for a while and then be around for decades until people finally proclaimed it a classic. The difference is that, unlike the mainstream, it is fresh, innovative, and thought provoking.

It is very hard with an album where all the songs are this good to recommend only one or two tracks.. But I'll say that "Substitute", "Keep Breathing", and "Nineteen Years Later" struck me as particularly excellent at the moment.

This is some very nice pop music with very mellow vocals, both female and male singers. I especially enjoy the music, the guitar and the rest of the instrumentals along with the beat, the tempo of the tunes. The ending to "Substitute" was just outstanding and pushes through to an excellent resolution. Some of these songs employ plaintive lyrics and being poetic in nature, border on a folk style with the soft female vocalist. I really loved the dreamy, dramatic personality of "Keep Breathing." Beautiful music, beautiful songs!

I almost didn't listen to this album because of the Title . . . I am glad I listened!

I've downloaded the album in FLAC from the band's site. I like most the first track (Death in the afternoon): the melody and the lyrics are quite catchy. In general the album is definitely worth listening to: I enjoy Laura's vocal (it's so emotional) and Stephan's music. It's a pity Laura leaves the band :( Well, I'll keep track of your next works.
