Description

One of the two most recent CDs released by Josh Woodward in August 2007. Dark Wings is an indie rock CD, full of dark songs but with the usual musical and lyrical complexity you'd see in his more traditional material. Features "I Want to Destroy Something Beautiful", "Stickybee" and "Gravity".

This dark pop rock from Ohio is quite addicting. The music is unique in its ability to maintain a pop rock sound along with very dark, almost free-form melodies. The vocals are great. Josh has a voice that copes well with the mood of each differing song.

The lyrics are deep and metaphorical. Most of the songs attempt to tell some sort of story with an awkward pseudo-chronology that is not disagreeable. Though it doesn't quite match how I described the other sets of lyrics, one of my new favorite lyrics is now "Methylchloroisothiazolinone". Who can't enjoy this terribly confusing love/hate song to the antibacterial element in everyone's favorite household products?

I lather and rinse and repeat
You leave me feeling complete
Go away, go away, cuz I don't wanna keep you

My favorite tracks were probably 1, "I want to destroy something beautiful", and 7, "The Raven and the Swan".

Excellent job, Josh. Ohio is not too far from Virginia, come visit some time.

I was wrong. I thought that Not Quite Connected couldn't be topped but then I listened to Dirty Wings and my jaw hits the floor with an unearthly thud. Its a darker album then Woodward's previous works and as such showcases his diversity as an artist. As always Woodward offers great instrumental and lyrical work but with an earthy edge that draws upon the melancholic and yet lifts the soul. Its a pleasant contradiction.

This guy has a unique sound. His lyrics are carefully sculpted to hook you into his music. AND IT DOESN'T GET BORING!!! Unlike some other albums, almost every song on this album brings something new to light. This man is a talent and deserves lots of publicity and praise.

I think ur emotion got the soul, simple ecletic, touchy and flowing rhytm....very cool brother. every part of ur song reflects about what u felt inside. keep up the good album !
