Pharmacopia’s Peter Dragotta continues his flirtation with modern composition, which began on his debut album “Pop’s English” posted up on the legendary MP3.com back in 1995. His influences in this genre include Steve Reich, Philip Glass, John Cage, John Adams, Charles Wuorinen and Milton Babbitt.
On “Process Music”, Dragotta expands on his electronica/acid jazz sensibilities leading off and closing the album with the main score he composed for the film “Ashoka: Innovators for the Public”. The second version of the score is Dragotta’s first submission. The film’s director felt this version was a bit reserved and wanted more of audio “flash”.
The film about the nonprofit global organization made its debut at the Ashoka Fellows Induction Ceremony held at Googleplex in November 2006.
The pieces sandwiched in-between these two are six virtual piano, string ensemble and orchestra pieces composed with generative music programs he authored using the MusicWonk (algoart.com) platform.
Dragotta under Pharmacopia is very pleased to show this other musical half again after 12 years since his debut on the online music scene. He is still a young composer when it comes to this type of music and would be surprised if it receives little if any praise. Still, he does appreciate feedback from his fans and new listeners; any comment good or bad is always welcomed.
