EKLEKTEK is just a name, or is it? It is a barrage of different elements that beset your ear drums and maybe not to everyone's taste, but then you can't please all the people, all the time. If you could we would be a pretty mindless bunch of animals, would we not? To start with it is not baaaad!-) Such was the intro. Eclecfunk brings the same, or at least similar, sense of not really taking itself seriously, which in itself is an endearing quality methinks. And, again, to reiterate this is what I think, and that does not make it right, or unequivocal. Just a point of view.
As it happens I do like the sound as well as the apparent attitude. They go well together and I am relying on my intuition. I write as I listen. This particular track turns into reasonable electronic music and the dramaturgy evident to start with seems to wane a bit, which is a shame and hopefully doesn't bode ill. Still very likeable. La Jam, is actually quite good fun. At first I thought the vocals would spoil it all for me, but they do work to quite good effect and there is again that strong, bold electronic support that balances it off well. I like the dubness of track 4, but dub has always got to me. The best live bass I've experienced was Eat Static, still resounds in me. Do you think I should pay royalties for that memory?
Freaks is fantastic, and fantastically freaky. And yes, I am in fear of my life. How do you see me now? I just for the first time took out a lot of text that was very anti-establishment, and now I am confronted with a pertinent track called War, so let's go for the bitching. The Prime Sinister of this country is probably justifying asking the mighty Obama for money to shore up England's failed economy on the grounds that we sided with them in the war in the Middle East that still continues, as it has done for thousands of years. And why am I not in London with the others? Couldn't afford the train fare. Why, because I have less rights than immigrants as far as the welfare state is concerned and therefore less money. Which is what it all boils down to.
Anyway, at least the music is good, while I am washed down the pan of life. Let's stick with the music, which is brilliant stuff in it's own distinctive manner, but that's only compared to all that has gone before it on this site and in my life. Sometimes though sounds inspire me to say the most seemingly odd things and I wonder myself where it comes from. Track 8 was great. Track 9 is fine. Mangroove has a lovely sound to it. I think the instrumentalism in this array of tracks in exemplary, I don't know if I would say eclectic as such, though certainly distinctive and pretty unique. Though there are thousands of albums I haven't heard that might be just like it. However, it is obviously popular looking at the statistics (if they are right), so there must be something appealing about it other than it simply being free to download and drive round town playing.
However, I am not a big rap fan, but then I am not a big fan of tenor sax, sitars or didgeridoos. Doesn't make them wrong, or that if I was Prime Sinister I would ban them. It's just that I don't care much for them, for a host of reasons that I won't bore you with. Having said that, rap has an ability to say a lot and for that reason, it could say a lot of the good stuff that motivates people to consolidate their efforts to make change happen, and I think it has to come from the roots up. Anyway, overall an interesting listen and for the most part well done. Couple of minor niggles but I won't be harsh just because I don't like rap, it all has it's part to play in the grand album of things. It ends with Cascade, which a brilliant note to end on. Personally, I find the instrumental work exceptional. Thanks for bugging me, I got there in the end!-)
