Album description

MAGNETIZE was the debut record of electronic music group Misfilter. What would become their trademark (weaving a musical tapestry of various electronic music genres) quickly comes evident as the trip-hop and dub influenced "Intro" leads into the frantic jungle rhythms of "Sunshine From The Rain". Later on in the album the pace slows down with the digital pop-ballad "Lovely". To go on even more of a tangent "Like An Angel" exhibits guitar driven fem-rock. Drawing heavily from his roots as a drum and bass DJ, producer Jon "Chord" Gos crafts an expansive project that compliments both the lyrics of vocalist/songwriter Hadley Poole and the guitars of James Staubes. This is no more evident than at the album's apex "This Is Love", a high-energy PJ Harvey cover of epic proportions!

Although it reminds me strongly of Lamb it is original in it’s own sound. I love the vocals, beautiful voice. I don’t think the cover does justice to the music that comes out of the speakers. Nice variation in strong and soft songs. My favourite song is Sunshine From The Rain, it makes me want to explode in dancing. I can listen to this album forever…

I really enjoyed listening to this album. It really got me going on and on and on. The base is super! and the beat is out of this world.

Good job.

Got no distinct favorite tracks. I like the album as a whole. Triphop as it had been at the beginning, much pop, partly melancholic, but not to dark, also fun and not as weird as some representatives later on.
Among those who succumbed to the charms of Hungry Lucy's voice there might be quite some who'll get addicted to Hadley's voice too (and vice versa).

"Sunshine From the Rain" sure is a literally smashing hit.
"Like an Angel" - pop rock driven by a predominantly reverberating guitar play.
"A Place For You" - electropop, partly dark, harsh electronic instrumentation accompanying Hadley's cool performance.
"Lovely"- slightly melancholic, almost lovely triphop
Drum and bass enframe the last two tracks. In a pronounced way at "Want it all" which makes you really want it all (for yourself)
and less accentuated at "Anticipation of an Ending Yet to Come (Remix)" accompanied by a successful combination of oriental (flute, drums) and western (guitar) elements.

From the musical point of view i'll give it a 9 but the impact it has on me is worth 5 stars. This is first and foremost due to Hadley's vocals,
which can be so sweet to seductive, adumbrating vulnerability on the one hand, revealing the rascal and rebel on the other.

In addition i agree with the reviews of elianphaedra and webmadman.

Thanks a lot for this great performance!

I have to say I have a real sweet tooth for this album- it has a strong pop sensibility- catchy soulful vocals, and musical hooks that will have you humming for days- but there's an edge here that lends more then a little substance to the project- both in terms of sound design and lyrics- that will keep you fed even after the sugar rush has worn off...
Too bad the project has disbanded- would like to hear more from them- oh well, nothing lasts forever.

A fantastic work.

It's hard to describe the sound; take Bjork, give her some Ladytron beats, throw in a little bit of heavy metal, and you have this. It's inherently danceable, unique, brooding, and oh so charming.

Rarely do I consider buying music off of (shudder) iTunes, but for this talent, I find no other solution. I must complete this album - and you will, too.
