I was born in 1989 in Freiburg, a town in the south of Germany. I developed an interest in music at a very young age – even if “music” in this particular case probably doesn’t describe much more than beating on an old ukulele and a tambourine. Then, once I was old enough to understand them, I got deeply fascinated with films, an obession that didn’t stop once the TV was turned off since I had long dived into these imaginery worlds, sort of reliving the experience over and over again. It was music though, that should become very important to me soon. I took part in a two year “musical education” at the age of five, before beginning to play accordion. When watching the famous “Winnetou” films, it was Martin Böttcher’s music that was toning out of the stereo all day long and frankly, I don’t think I was ever very good at separating the sound and the images it was supposed to accompany. To me, one always created the other, at least inside of my head. Then, after getting exposed to “Star Trek”, I for some reason created my own imaginery series, writing a little title melody and several scripts for more or less possible episodes – well, it’s needless to say that this was a rather special phase… After several years of playing the accordion, a few competitions and countless hours of practising, I got the feeling that this wasn’t exactly what I wanted any more and began messing with an old keyboard – which turned into what was my way of learning how to “play the piano”. When I was thirteen, my parents got me a cable to plug the keyboard into the computer and with its help, I began writing my own musical pieces. At first, they obviously were extremely simple but as time passed by, my compositions became much more complex. With a little help of the internet, I discovered that there were indeed people out there who could use my music which should lead to me producing the soundtracks for plenty of (mostly short) films, radio plays and games in the years to come. This didn’t keep me entirely from being interested in films though. A bunch of school projects and an old (and unfortunately broken) camcorder got me hooked enough so that at the age of twelve, I would believe to one day make a living from writing movie scripts (this hasn’t happened yet though). Musically, I eventually stopped taking accordion lessons and replaced them by proper piano lessons which I took at least for some time. In the meanwhile, I got another camcorder and this time around, it wasn’t so broken. Suddenly there were no limits for epic home movie blockbusters produced together with friends (some of them, you can watch on this site and some of them, you fortunately can’t and never will!). The “problem” though was that I had already decided to become a film music composer at this point so my new found love for film making threatened to interfer with my career plans – at least on the stage that was my mind. However, at the end of the day, I figured out that nothing was set in stone yet anyway and as long as this wouldn’t be the case, there was absolutely no reason in the world to skip out on one thing to pursue the other – after all, film music consisted of two words…
