More information...

False Haruspex was formed earlier in this millennium by bassist/multi-instrumentalist Gregory Straathof and drummer/flautist David Lamden. Both are former members of “Stan”, the prog-rock power trio featuring guitarist Kris Madelung. False Haruspex played a handful of shows as a bass/drums duo, but often utilized other instruments (guitar, accordion, synths, hand percussion, etc.) on their recordings.

They count many well known progressive rock artists as influences, but are equally inspired by composers such as Ennio Morricone and Steve Reich, which tends to steer them toward atmospherics and composition-based interplay rather than gratuitous soloing.

Their first full length album, “The Theme”, also referred to as “Le Délire de Négation”, demonstrates a much broader range of styles and influences than on their previous recordings. Their prog-rock, funk and film influences are, perhaps, even more apparent, but now there are nods to doom, sludge, metal, electronica, jazz, and many other styles. To fit such a wide range of styles into a cohesive sound, False Haruspex expanded its line-up to include two additional members: Rob Gilliland of Bats Brew joined as “Stunt Guitarist”, and Mike Toscarelli of Mixed Meteor Studios added his considerable talents and his arsenal of analog synths and percussion instruments to create all manner of subsonic rumblings.
