Hox Vox

Hox Vox is a solo project by Gianluca Missero (Hox), born in Venezia (Italy).

During first half of 80s I played also in other two bands: bass and keyboards with Marco Bianchi (drummer of Death in Venice) in the avant-wave duo SlideStraviati, and keyboards in new wave Gunshot Nucleus again with Bianchi, Sebastian Russo (singer of Death in Venice) and Alberta Marchiori.

From about 1985 I ceased to play - except for a short comin' back in '89 with an 8-bit tracker MOD music experiment called Eight-Bit Deboned.

In october 2008 I re-released under Creative Commons license Eight-Bit Deboned in mp3 format, and a few interest on it convinced me to restart composing and playing music.

The approach of my work is RIO/progressive, with an obsession for not-proper use of instruments, song structures and bizarre twists on caribbean, post-rock or gamelan themes.

Eight-Bit Deboned was composed and played in 1989 using a simple tracker, (Oktalizer 1.0 on an Amiga 500) and a few samples token from Amiga magazines’ bonus disks and an Akai sampler. The resulting sound reminds of Residents or Fred Frith. It was spreaded on floppy disk in Octamed MOD format.

Outskirt (december 2008) is a 16 tracks concept album about low inhabitated, or at least far-from-centre areas. Genres vary according to the ambient, from progressive to kraut rock electronics, indie, jazz, death metal, avantgarde, funky and more.

Das Chamäleon (march 14, 2009) is an EP filled with 5 tracks about mutant music, obtained through bizzarre pairings or juxtaposing uneven genres.
Springbound is an electronic/IDM number - Plastique Boots between white reggae and rock - Entr’Acte inspired by famous Renè Clair movie put together electronics and a latin melody - Cockroach got the darker Residents influences and a fusion bass - Das Chamäleon start in a funky fashion and developes a series of themes usually considered as incongruous, being the manifesto of whole record.

Cover is an artwork by me.

Étoile (July 4, 2009) is the fourth release by Hox Vox, it's a concept album about stars - both intended as prima ballerinas and celestial bodies - and their issues. Genre is a series of pastiches with world music, symphonic progressive, a bit of contemporary and kraut electronics, always with the free approach of Rock in Opposition tradition.
Record start with a Residents-like intro sung by a couple of real pigs, then a piece of math/art rock, sounding like a too dry death metal. Then from Rhythmbox the record starts wedging prog, contemporary, world and electronics.

I make videoclips with animation techniques as well, because I try to keep a link between music and images.

They're all in Hox Vox Box channel on Youtube.
