Peter Schaefer

I was born in Leipzig in Eastern Germany in 1977. Music gained very soon an important place in my life.

Thanks to my parents, who listened to a wide range of music (from Rock to Motown to Classical Music), I early got aquainted with different styles. I enrolled for music school to play the flute and later the trombone, but somehow I wasn't made to play wind instruments. So I stopped the music lessons and went on to sing in different choirs.

After school I started to play guitar and had my first public performance in Trento/Italy, where I studied for two years.

In 1999 I started to write my first songs. Coming back to Dresden, where I started my studies, I took some jazz guitar lessons and learned to love the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Caetano Veloso. Later I discovered the standards (George Gershwin, Cole Porter) and their main interprets (Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole).

In 2004 writing my own songs became an important part of my life. I guess I completed more than thirty songs that year. I also intensified my studies of the Classical Guitar.

The first gig where I played almost only own songs was in March 2005 in a small Bar - "La scaletta" - in Trento. It was an amazing feeling. After that I played on several other occasions with Pierluigi (git) and John (tablas).

In 2006 I decided to concentrate more on the singing. Together with Ivan Daldoss I studied some songs for piano and voice - some songs I always wanted to play on stage - and mixed with own compositions.

Elisa Pisetta helped my to arrange some of my own songs for two electric guitars. The result were two concerts - one in a small theater "L'Officina" and the other in a public hall, and both were important steps for me.

In the summer of 2006 I also recorded my first album "Will you care for the rising sun?", which you can download here on jamendo.com. The record was realized with the help of the musicians Elisa Pisetta, Ulrich Sandner, Pierluigi Colangelo and Ivan Daldoss. The sound engineer was Andrea Cristofori.

In 2007 I started a very fruitful collaboroation with Johannes Escher. Together we recorded the album "Where to go?". His riffs give the music a powerful base and his texts are very interesting, being socially critic in a very subtle way.

In 2008 I recorded a new CD, which will I will upload soon. It features twelve new songs. Among them is a duet accompanied by a violoncello and some very good guitar arrangements by Ulrich Sandner and Francesco Pisanu.
