Reptile71 is a solo-project of Paul Tetteroo, who has also been the singer of a Dutch alternative rock band called BrainscaB in the late 90’s. Early 2000 Paul started recording music on his own, mostly influenced by music from his roots, which was the 80’s new wave sound and then especially the melancholic atmospheric type of the genre, often categorized under darkwave.
In a period of 3 years several tracks were recorded and most of them were added to a number of unsigned bands sites such as the Vitaminic music database, active at that time. Some tracks
reached high positions in alternative charts of those sites. After this period of time it became silent around the Reptile71 project. No cd-release, only traces left all over the internet.
Paul never stopped being interested in music, but just was busy with other things in life. It all resulted in starting his own cd-webstore ‘Sounds for Sure’ in early 2008. One thing always leads to another and after some months Paul was helping Dutch band Cradle releasing their live album on a small scale. ‘Sounds for Sure’ had become a small label and that was the moment the Reptile71 project started coming back to memory.
There was enough Reptile71 material to compile an album out of it. So 11 tracks were prepared for a CD release. They were mastered by a friend musician, Lex van der Schans, who also plays bass guitar on 3 tracks, and Justin Curfman (of US post-punk band Feeding Fingers) was asked to sing along on one track. This resulted in the first CD release of Reptile71 in January 2009.
