The Pyknics debut album is now available at Recordshop Äx at €4,90.
The band was founded 2008, when the lineup became stable and the name "The Pyknics" was chosen. The recording of the forthcoming album was also started early 2008. Most of the songs recorded are also new.
However the members of the band have been playing and writing music together since 1990 with a few years break between 1997 and 2003. Before the break the name of the band was Xinian. That band originated from 1986 when Hannu and Jyrki first started playing together in Lapinlahti (in northern Savo) and immediately started writing their own music together. Risto came to the fold in 1989 and Pekka 1990. Pekka had previously played in a hardcore band Vivisektio since early 80's. Vivisektio has become active again with a new lineup including Pekka 2008.
After the break the band rehearsed without a need for a name for a few years with varying lineups. 2006 Hannu moved to Arizona for half a year and the rest hired another drummer. When Hannu came back he started playing also bass and the band divided into two different bands. The original 4 and a 6-piece band called STF in which Hannu and Jyrki also played and which did a few gigs. STF broke up in the fall 2008 due to musical differences.
The album is recorded in a 9m2 concrete basement, except for Pekka's guitar parts, which are recorded in the attic to get the overall frequencies to the street level.
