OPEN MUSIC WIRE - Blog Post
by: Josh East
The many sub-genres of reggae music are continuing to grow, as we see hip-hop, neo-soul and electronica influences to help change the format up a bit, giving traditional reggae ‘ridems’ some friendly competition in record sales; at least that’s my perception as a reggae music fan that’s been grounded in a vinyl and CD collection that hasn’t grown in recent years either, due to the fact I can listen to them over and over again.
Thanks to Haitian reggae artist Wanted, who recently contacted me from the Dominican Republic, led me to his debut record project that made me explore the reggae scene from France to the U.S., helping me to discover new reggae tunes. When I first listened to Wanted, his natural vocal talent and musicianship took me away as I heard his single ‘Come Along’. After experiencing with a handful of tracks, I had to ask him if he’d be interested in participating in OpenMusicWire.com, and what track he would like to offer as a free download to let music fans discover his talents. Wanted chose ‘Friday’, a party track that made a brother want to grab a drink of Caribbean rum during happy hour … before noon! All in all, his music is a keeper, finally bringing some new sounds in my personal reggae collection.
The positive vibe to Wanted is that he’s got a great heart, focusing strongly on humanitarian efforts, where he gives back to his community to help battle the fight of hungry children in the town of Jacmel, Haiti under the Jacmel Haiti American Children’s Assistance Foundation (JHACAF); an organization he co-founded in 2007.
