Hello.
I play bass and try to sing in the Canadian band, Dick and the Emotions (DatE).
I think I should tell you of my musical influences: the Beatles, the Guess Who and Emitt Rhodes for the joy of good pop/rock tunes and Yes, ELP, original Genesis, and Gentle Giant.... for the 'musical technician' in me... all way beyond my level of musicianship! You can hear my attempt at 'Chris Squire style bass playing' on 'Dick the Snake'. Laughing is permitted. I recently found my old vinyl albums again... including Syrinx (with John Mills-Cockell), Premiata Forneria Marconi, and Klaatu . Who knows what effect this will have on my new tunes!
I am also interested in other things that make noise... jet engines, railway trains, bodily functions etc. Regrettably, none of these can really be used to create pop music. I found the closest things are synths, especially ones made by Clavia. I like 'em!
In the next few months I will attempt to use the products of Clavia, Roland, Roger Linn Designs, Steinberger and Ernie Ball to create some more-music-like sounds (although, the odd 50's era jet engine might also surface). Once it has been determined they are fit for human consumption, I will foist them at the unsupecting peoples of the Jamendo world.
What I have published, for now... are some of my early home demos from the 1980s. Instrumental Electronic Pop is one description... musical 'shite' is another. Whatever you think, it is, what it is. Tunes from a more innocent time... for me.
I have some newer stuff @ http://www.reverbnation.com/sputech
