Dark Latin Rock from Costa Rica
Juan Shamán is Jenaro A. Díaz-Ducca's solo project. In his first CD, "Reëvolución", Juan Shamán combines rock, dark, new wave and Latin rhythms such as bolero and son.Highly experimental music, his lyrics also evidence different influences: symbolism, post-Romanticism... In his own words, "these are romantic songs without being love songs; and they are love songs without being quite romantic..."
"The name Juan Shamán reflects our Latin American mixed blood. It encompasses both the Judeo-Christian-Spanish "Juan" ("John" in English) as the humblest and most common of names; as well as the title Shamán (Sanskrit sramana, monk, ascetic) which describes our native American heritage (we are referring here to the American continent, and not to the USA) . Thus, we try to preserve and enrich our mestizo identity, and at the same time project it into the present and future..."
